Job summary

Postman is seeking a senior backend engineer to scale the Identity and Access Management platform. You will design and optimize auth protocols, contribute to secure platform components, and collaborate with Product, Design, Support, QA, Security, and Platform teams to deliver robust APIs.

You will work on role engineering, session management and standardized formats to meet cross-functional AuthN/AuthZ needs, while building tooling to ease product development and maintenance.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience building complex backend or distributed systems at scale.
• Proficient with JavaScript, Node.js, React.js and web fundamentals.
• Good knowledge of databases, including performance optimization, indexing and caching.

Responsibilities

• Build and optimize auth standards and protocols (OAuth2.0, OIDC, SCIM, SAML).
• Contribute to secure, reliable IAM platform components.
• Research role engineering, session management, and cross-functional needs for AuthN/AuthZ.
• Develop APIs and products with cross-functional teams (PMs, Designers, QA, Security).

About the Team Identity and Access Management team is responsible for creating a secure, reliable and seamless Identity Management Platform for all the Postman users. This is the team behind authenticating and authorizing every request that reaches Postman space. Postman's Identity Interface is the gateway to access a plethora of Postman's services while enabling users to connect with peers to perform work collaboratively. What You’ll Do

• Build and optimize the auth standards and protocols such as OAuth2.0, OIDC, SCIM, SAML and so on.
• Contribute to the development of secure, reliable and scalable IAM platform components.
• Be involved in research areas such as role engineering, session management, and implement standardized formats meeting cross-functional AuthN and AuthZ needs for the platform.
• Contribute to developing APIs and products while working with a cross-functional team of Product Managers, Designers, Support and Product, Quality, Security and Platform Engineers.
• Utilize your technical and domain expertise to help architect the solution and facilitate cross-squad knowledge sharing on best practices.
• Design & build any additional internal tooling required to ease the development & maintenance of the product.

About You You have 5+ years of experience building complex backend or distributed systems at scale. Proficient with Javascript, node.js, React.Js, and a good understanding of web fundamentals. Good knowledge of Database fundamentals, especially on the performance aspects such as optimizing queries, schema design, indexing, and caching. Proven record of building & products from scratch. (Bonus) Good understanding of auth products, protocols, and methods ( OAuth, SAML, OIDC etc.) You enjoy learning and sharing knowledge within and across teams. You have a product-oriented mindset and empathy for the users.

The reasonably estimated base salary for this role ranges from $150,000 to $190,000, plus a competitive equity package. Actual compensation is based on the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience.

We’re building a long-term company with an inclusive culture where everyone can be the best version of themselves. At Postman we value in person collaboration. We are in office 5 days a week for all roles based out of our hubs in San Francisco Bay Area, Boston, Austin, New York City, Tokyo and London. For roles based in Bangalore, employees currently work in the office three days a week and will transition to five days per week by the end of the year.
