Job summary

Enlighten is seeking a Software Engineer to design, develop, and implement complex software for computer-based systems. You will collaborate with engineers to deliver high-quality Java-based capabilities and integrate next-gen AI agents into daily workflows.

The role requires 5+ years of Java experience with modern frameworks, REST/microservices, and a willingness to work in a hybrid Augusta, GA office. Clearances offered/required; salary range listed below.

Qualifications

• Clearance Requirement: Must obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance; U.S. Citizenship required.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience with modern Java frameworks and libraries (e.g., Spring, Guava); or 3 years with a Masters in a related field; or high school diploma/equivalent with 9 years relevant experience.
• Experience designing enterprise APIs.
• Experience with RESTful web services.
• Experience with a microservices architecture.
• Experience in Object Oriented Programming (OOP) paradigms.
• Experience with the agile software lifecycle.
• Proven ability to learn quickly and work well both independently and in a team.
• Experience with Linux operating system.
• Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Git, Nexus, Maven).
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment, spending an average of 1-2 days per week at our Augusta, GA office.

Anticipated Salary Range: $100,173.00 - $140,000.00. The salary range is a good-faith estimate based on location, responsibilities, and expectations. Occasionally positions may include additional non-recurrent compensation addressed by the recruiter during the interview process.

Essential Job Responsibilities

• Experience with Next-Gen Coding Agents: integrating advanced AI agents (e.g., Claude Code or Google's Antigravity / Gemini) into daily software engineering routines.
• Agentic Feature & Test Development: using autonomous agents for multi-file feature implementations, complex codebase refactoring, and automated generation of robust unit/integration tests.
• Context & Workflow Management: guiding AI agents through complex, multi-repository architectures, managing context efficiently, and auditing agent-generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment.
• Work in a fast-paced, small business environment with a talented team.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Clearance Requirement: Must obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance; U.S. Citizenship required. Candidate with current Secret or TS clearance also considered.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience with modern Java frameworks and libraries (e.g., Spring, Guava); or 3 years with a Masters in a related field; or high school diploma/equivalent with 9 years relevant experience.
• Experience designing enterprise APIs.
• Experience with RESTful web services.
• Experience with a microservices architecture.
• Experience in Object Oriented Programming (OOP) paradigms.
• Experience with the agile software lifecycle.
• Proven ability to learn quickly and work well both independently and in a team.
• Experience with Linux operating system.
• Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Git, Nexus, Maven).
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment, spending an average of 1-2 days per week at our Augusta, GA office. Flexibility to adapt to schedule changes as needed.

Preferred Requirements

• Current Clearances: Active Secret or Top Secret clearances are a strong plus.
• Next-Gen Coding Agents: Proven use of AI tools (Claude Code, Gemini) in daily engineering workflows.
• Agentic Feature Delivery: Using autonomous agents for multi-file implementation, refactoring, and automated testing.
• Experience in cloud-based technologies (AWS, Azure).
• Experience in distributed databases, NoSQL databases, full-text search engines (e.g., Elasticsearch, MongoDB, Solr).
• Scripting experience is a plus.
• Prior experience or familiarity with Big Data Platforms or Data Lake architectures.
• Understanding of AGILE software development methodologies and standard tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, Github Enterprise).
