Salient Motion, Inc. is seeking an embedded software engineer to bridge firmware and hardware, developing a web-based telemetry platform that analyzes motor controller performance. You will collaborate with firmware, hardware, and systems engineers to build real-time interfaces and tools.

The role combines writing C code with oscilloscope-driven debugging and schematics reading, contributing to end-to-end development from conception to deployment in a Hawthorne, CA environment.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
• 2+ years as a software engineer with frontend and backend experience.
• Strong experience with TypeScript and React.
• Experience with Electron desktop application development.
• Experience with Firebase (Authentication, Firestore, Cloud Functions).
• Solid backend experience using Node.js or Python; Python experience for test scripting and data analysis is a plus.
• Experience designing and building REST or WebSocket APIs.
• Experience working with real-time data, time-series databases, or WebSocket streams.
• Familiarity with Figma and experience collaborating closely with designers.
• Strong UX instincts and a passion for building clean, usable interfaces.

About the role:

We need an embedded software engineer who can work across firmware andhardware. This is not a pure software role - the candidate will use oscilloscopes,read schematics, and debug board-level issues alongside writing C code.

What you'll do:

You'll be part of our growing Software Engineering team by building and scaling our web-based telemetry and diagnostics platform—our window into the performance of next-generation motor controllers and electromechanical systems.
You'll work with a passionate team of firmware, hardware, and systems engineers to build tools that bridge embedded systems with intuitive, real-time interfaces.

• A bias for action—you like to take ownership and move fas

Nice to haves:

• Experience building UI dashboards for hardware systems
• Experience with DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, or Vite
• Familiarity with WebHID/WebUSB or binary protocol communication withhardware devices
