Job summary

Lyft is seeking a Software Engineer for the Core Services team in Seattle to build backend distributed systems powering ridesharing from request to payment completion. You will design, develop, deploy, and maintain the Fulfillment tech stack, collaborating across product, data science, and analytics to deliver high-impact features.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years of software engineering, strong OO programming, experience with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), distributed systems, and CI tools,

Qualifications

• BS/MS or equivalent in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• 2+ years of software engineering industry experience.
• Proficiency in object-oriented programming.
• Experience designing, debugging and running fault-tolerant, highly available, large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience working with public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Microsoft Azure).
• Proficiency in scripting languages to use APIs to automate manual processes.
• Experience with CI tools (Jenkins, Buildkite, CircleCI, TeamCity).
• Solid knowledge of distributed systems, relational and NoSQL databases.
• Ability to communicate in English in writing, meetings, and presentations.

Core Services powers the passenger and driver state machines from request and accept through drop-off and payment completion. The team enables new ride variations like autonomous vehicles, taxis, scheduled, business concierge, health and more. The Core Services are a suite of distributed Python and Golang systems central to Lyft's backend.

As a software engineer on the team, you will work on integrating new rider and driver products and features onto the state machine and enhancing the performance and reliability of ride state transitions. As a Software Engineer at Lyft, you will collaborate with other engineers and cross-functional teams, such as product, data science, and analytics, to lead and execute large projects—from concept to efficient execution. In this role, you will tackle some of the most interesting and impactful problems in ridesharing.

Experience:

• Experience with common CI tools (Jenkins, Buildkite, CircleCI, TeamCity), and proficiency in at least one of those tools
• Solid knowledge of distributed systems, relational and NoSQL databases
• Ability to communicate in English in writing, meetings, and presentations

The expected base pay range for this position in the Seattle area is $128,000 - $160,000, not inclusive of potential equity offering, bonus or benefits. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location.
