Job summary

Redwire Space Missions, LLC in Littleton, CO is seeking a Software Engineer to help design, test, and integrate simulation and test software used to validate flight software, GN&C algorithms, and satellite operation. You will build digital twins and flat sat environments and collaborate with flight software, systems, and electrical engineering teams to enable end-to-end mission validation.

The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's in a related field and strong C++/Python, Linux, and real-time systems

Qualifications

• Experience working with real time systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and configure simulation and test software to meet requirements for validating flight software, GN&C algorithms, and general satellite operation.
• Translate system requirements for digital twins and flat sats into software architectures, designs, and implementations.
• Create component emulators used to validate flight software modules and day-in-the-life tests.
• Implement or adapt test software to execute full verification and validation tests on the spacecraft during AI&T operations.
• Work with electrical engineering to design a flat sat representing the spacecraft.
• Perform unit, integration, and system-level software testing, including hardware-in-the-loop environments.
• Document project progress, software design, implementation, and testing processes.
• Adhere to safety protocols and procedures on the test bench unit.
• Troubleshoot technical issues with simulation and test software systems.
• Use software development best practices and version control procedures.
• Ensure compliance with aerospace quality standards and configuration management.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems, avionics, and mission operations.

Summary

Redwire Space Missions, LLC has a current opportunity for a Software Engineer located at our facility in Littleton, CO. In this position, you will assist with the design, testing and integration of simulation and test software that will be used to validate flight software, Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) algorithms, and general operation of a satellite system. This role includes working with full software systems for modeling and simulation and performing integration with other software systems and hardware-in-the-loop. You will work closely with the flight software team, systems engineering, and electrical engineering to assemble a digital twin and flat sat for the mission.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and configure simulation and test software to meet requirements for validating flight software, GN&C algorithms, and general satellite operation
• Translate system requirements for digital twins and flat sats into software architectures, designs, and implementations.

• Implement or adapt test software to execute full verification and validation tests on the spacecraft during assembly, integration, and test (AI&T) operations
• Work with electrical engineering to design a flat sat which is an accurate representation of the spacecraft.
• Perform unit, integration, and system-level software testing, including hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) environments.
• Document project progress, software design, implementation, and testing processes
• Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures while working with the test bench unit
• Assist with troubleshooting technical issues with simulation and test software systems
• Use software development best practices and version control procedures
• Ensure compliance with aerospace quality standards and configuration management processes
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including systems, avionics, and mission operations

Ideal Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
• Proficiency in C++ and Python
• Proficiency with Linux and shell scripting
• Experience working with real time systems
• Familiarity with spacecraft avionics interfaces and protocols (e.g., MIL-STD-1553, CAN, SpaceWire, RS-422, Ethernet).
• Experience with Object Oriented software development
• Experience with version control systems (Git, SVN) and issue tracking tools (JIRA)
• Occasional travel required
• Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a security clearance.

Desired Skills

• Familiarity with Maven and CMake for dependency management and builds
• Experience working with hardware-in-the-loop, including mission critical hardware
• Experience with modeling and simulation
• Familiarity with basic aerospace principles and satellite design
• Experience working in an Agile development environment
• Experience with containers (Docker, Podman, Kubernetes) and microservices
• Strong communication and organizational skills

Pay Range

$95,000 – $135,000

Redwire determines pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data, for our locations throughout the US. We will evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index, in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company.

For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. Salaries will be based on the applicant’s level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and internal equity within the company for the same position. An employee/candidate with a stronger skill set will receive higher pay.
