Job summary

Goodwin Recruiting is partnering with a defense robotics-focused organization in Charlotte, NC to hire a Software Engineer. You will design, develop, and integrate software for unmanned robotic platforms, working with ROS2, Python, and C++ in a Linux environment.

The role emphasizes hands-on hardware/software integration, system testing, and collaboration across engineering teams. ITAR eligibility is required; relocation assistance and a strong benefits package are available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Professional experience developing software for robotics, embedded systems, or autonomous platforms.
  • Strong programming experience with Python and C++.
  • Experience working with ROS2 (or similar robotics middleware).
  • Hands-on experience integrating hardware, sensors, and embedded computing platforms.
  • Working knowledge of Linux development environments and Git version control.
  • Experience with CAN Bus communication in embedded or robotics applications.
  • Self-motivated engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be eligible to work on ITAR-regulated programs (U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, or U.S. Person).

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and integrate production-quality software for unmanned robotic platforms.
  • Develop robotic control and autonomy software using ROS2, Python, and C++.
  • Integrate software with sensors, actuators, embedded hardware, and vehicle systems.
  • Perform hands-on hardware and software integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop and maintain software within a Linux development environment using Git.
  • Support rapid prototyping, system validation, and field testing of robotic platforms.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver reliable, high-performance solutions.
  • Continuously improve software architecture, system reliability, and development processes.
