Job description

It’s why we have a world-renowned newsroom that sends journalists to report on the ground from nearly 160 countries. It’s why we focus deeply on how our readers will experience our journalism, from print to audio to a world-class digital and app destination. And it’s why our business strategy centers on making journalism so good that it’s worth paying for.

You will report to an engineering manager and partner with engineers, product and project managers, data scientists, newsroom along with others to build systems that turn NYT's archive of publishing content into data products. • Use AI to process our archive and turn unstructured data into structured data, while developing a deep understanding of what we're building and how to use it
  • Ensure a high degree of code quality, security, and system observability
  • Drive architectural excellence by establishing best practices for high concurrency, data-intensive systems
  • Champion a \"quality-first\" culture by architecting automated testing frameworks that ensure service reliability at scale
  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

  • Experience with infrastructure orchestration and familiarity with cloud computing platforms like GCP or AWS
  • Understanding of application and data security best practices
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively as a part of a cross‑functional team
Preferred Qualifications
  • Front‑end familiarity (JavaScript, React) to contribute across the stack when needed
  • Understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, ETL/ELT processes, data pipelines, and data architecture
  • Experience with AI/ML
  • Experience with Content Management Systems
  • Experience with metadata and tagging
  • Familiarity with extracting or digitizing content from multiple sources
