Software Engineer, Backend – Institutional Products

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom in the world. We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to join the Institutional Foundations team, building and scaling critical systems for Coinbase Institutional that support global availability, fund safety, and user experience.

Responsibilities

• Build new services to meet critical product and business needs using Golang for our Card Program.
• Help articulate a long‑term vision for maintaining and scaling Coinbase Institutional’s backend systems.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to turn product and technical visions into tangible roadmaps each quarter.
• Take independent ownership over the completion and quality of tasks and projects, writing high‑quality, well‑tested code that meets customer needs.
• Show bias for action and data‑driven decisions, experimenting with new solutions as quickly as possible.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of experience in software engineering.
• Proficiency in writing high‑quality, well‑tested code to meet customer needs.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services; familiarity with service‑oriented architecture.
• Strong track record of executing technical tasks and projects end‑to‑end.
• Passion for building an open financial system that unites the world.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Nice to Haves

• Professional experience with Golang, Postgres, or MongoDB.
• Experience building financial, high‑reliability, or security systems.
• Familiarity with Coinbase products and/or blockchain technologies (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum).
• Experience during rapid organizational growth (from startup to mid‑size).
• Experience decomposing a large monolith into microservices.
• Passion for blockchain technology and active use of crypto exchange applications or dapps.
