Job summary

Viasat is hiring an Early Career software engineer to design and implement cloud-enabled solutions for satellite ground and mobility systems. You will grow through a Graduate Development Program and contribute to API-driven software, AI-enabled tooling, and scalable architectures.

The role emphasizes collaboration, modern DevOps practices, and a site-based work arrangement with relocation support where eligible.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Engineering or Computer Science.
• 0–3 years of full-time, relevant industry experience.
• Proficiency coding in Python.
• Experience with team-based software development.
• Proficiency in documenting.
• Experience developing software in and for a Linux environment.
• Written and verbal communication skills.
• Valid Work Permit or Visa for the country you would be located and working from.

What You'll Do

Our team is responsible for designing and implementing software solutions for satellite communication ground and mobility systems. This role offers opportunities to develop cloud infrastructure, compose scalable software, and build reliable systems that connect different software components. You will use your skills in software design, coding, continuous integration, and support to improve our products. The real-world implication of our work is delivering connections that change the world. You will have the opportunity to work with a diverse team of engineers and professionals at Viasat.

The day-to-day

• Integrating innovative software features

Additional Details

• This position is site-based. Site‑based employees work 3+ days (60%+) per week from a Viasat office or work location within a standard five‑day work week. While this means employees are mostly and consistently onsite, Viasat embraces a flexible work environment. Relocation assistance is available pending eligibility.
• As an Early Career hire, you will participate in our Graduate Development Program during your first 12+ months at Viasat. This program is designed to support your transition from university to the workplace through dedicated mentorship, building relationships with your cohort of new grad hires, technical upskilling, soft skills development and more to ensure you’re set up for success as you begin your professional journey with Viasat.

What You'll Need

What Will Help You On The Job

• Experience with software feature design
• Experience with Databases (Postgres, MSSQL Server, etc.)
• Proficiency in refactoring and modularizing existing codebases
• Continuous Integration & Deployment (CI/CD) training or experience (e.g., Jenkins, Github Actions)
• Knowledge or experience with deployment tools such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, Azure, and/or Docker
• Experience troubleshooting technical issues with internal users
• Experience with containerization
• Experience with AI Development (e.g., Claude code, opencode, Copilot)
• Ability to prioritize competing tasks and requirements
• Experience with version control software (git)
• Experience with API design and Software Architecture
• Experience with GoLang, k8s, argocd

Salary range

$95,000.00 - $150,000.00 / annually. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $118,000.00- $177,000.00/ annually At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
