Job summary

The candidate will join the EED-3 team to develop and support tools for NASA Earthdata Search Client and the Common Metadata Repository in a fast-paced Agile environment. You will deploy product updates, identify production issues, and help construct scalable architectures to improve earth science data discovery and transformations.

Remote role with quarterly travel possible; strong knowledge of AWS, Elasticsearch, Docker/Kubernetes, and CI/CD is essential for success in this position.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related discipline
• 0-3 years of software development experience
• Experience in cloud environments (AWS preferred) EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, API Gateway
• Proficiency in TypeScript, JavaScript (Node.JS/React), Python
• Hands-on experience with Elasticsearch for search and data operations
• Strong grounding in Agile/Scrum methodologies and use of Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and SDLC practices

Job Summary:

The candidate will work in a fast-paced Agile development environment performing operations, design, and development for the NASA Earthdata Search Client (EDSC) and the Common Metadata Repository (CMR). As a member of the EED-3 team, the software developer will build and support innovative tools allowing scientists and students alike to discover, transform, update, and improve the quality of earth science data in the pursuit of solving a wide range of environmental and socio-economic issues. This includes leading the deployment of product updates, to identify production issues and construct scalable architecture.

Roles and Responsibilities:

• Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle from user story generation, through design, development, automated testing and operational support
• Develop new feature ideas to meet the ever-evolving needs of our end-users
• Continually help the team grow by sharing new ideas and industry best practices
• Suggest improvements to processes and tools to help the team be more efficient

Required Education and Experience:

• Experience in cloud environments (AWS preferred) EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, API Gateway.
• Proficiency in programming languages, front-end technologies and frameworkssuch as TypeScript, JavaScript (Node.JS/React), Python.
• Hands-on experience with Elasticsearchfor search and data operations.
• Strong grounding in Agile/Scrummethodologies and use of tools like Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket.
• Experience with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and software development lifecycle practices.

Desired/Preferred Skills:

• Experience with geospatial/GIS dataformats and tools (GeoJSON, KML, ArcGIS, QGIS).
• Familiarity with machine learning/AIconcepts.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration(Docker, Kubernetes).
• Knowledge of monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, Prometheus.
• Strong problem-solving and debugging skills for large-scale distributed systems.
• Prior experience presenting at technical conferences or leading knowledge-sharing sessions.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related discipline
• 0-3 yearsof software development experience.
