CBRE is seeking a Building Automation Engineer to perform Master Systems Integration of BMS, build control databases, and create user interfaces per project specs. You will support installers and customers on-site and remotely, and participate in system commissioning and software setup.
The role involves travel up to 50%, requires a degree in HVAC/electrical/mechanical/software or equivalent experience, and heavy emphasis on problem solving and documentation.
As a CBRE Building Automation Engineer, you will carry out Master Systems Integration of building management systems (BMS), build control databases, create user interfaces and set-up control systems based on project specification and/or sales proposals.
Provide on-site and remote technical support to installers and customers. Performs field startup and system commissioning tasks as well as the remote installation of software and control programs.
This job is part of the Software Engineering job function responsible for delivering projects on a global scale for large enterprise clients using industry leading technologies and processes.

Create complex programming using flow diagrams, sequences of operations and panel layouts.
Perform programming of control applications using various software tools.
Perform job-site system checkout, commissioning, and testing of control applications.
Confirm proper operation according to project specifications, sales proposal, and design documentation.
Approve and develop system graphic displays, according to project specifications or sales proposals.
Provide on-site and remote technical support to installers and customers.
Perform multifaceted system evaluation and diagnostics.
Isolate and troubleshoot escalated problems and take corrective action.
Document problem resolution and report finding back to Project team for customer follow-up.
Apply general knowledge of standard principles and techniques/procedures to accomplish assigned tasks and solve routineproblems.
Have broad knowledge of own job discipline and some knowledge of several job disciplines within the function.
Support the management of software tools.
Impact the quality of own work and the work of others on the team.
Work primarily within standardized procedures and practices to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.
Explain complex information to others in straightforward situations.
Bachelor's Degree in HVAC, Electrical, Mechanical or Software preferred with 2-5 years of relevant experience. In lieu of a degree, a combination of experience and education will be considered.
Understanding of existing procedures and standards to solve slightly complex problems.
Ability to analyze possible solutions using technical experience to apply appropriate judgment and precedents.
In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
Strong organizational skills with an inquisitive mindset.
Must possess core knowledge in a minimum of three of the following:
Building Management Systems
Niagara – Required
Distech Controls
Building Automation protocols (BACnet, Modbus)
HVAC Controls
IT Networking
Commissioning
Troubleshooting
Travel requirement is up to 50% of your annual time. Trips will be overnight up to a weeklong. Back-to-back travel weeks are not normal.
CBRE carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, and experience. The minimum salary for the Software Engineer position is $80,000 annually and the maximum salary for the Software Engineer position is $95,000 annually. The compensation that is offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience.
