Job summary

Protingent Staffing is seeking a Software Engineer 4 (Commercial Nuclear) for a fully remote role. You will join the Plant Services department to help develop software models for the control room simulator and collaborate with operators and engineers on model updates per engineering docs.

Ideal candidates will have 5+ years in software development, experience with thermal hydraulic and neutronic codes, and proficiency in Fortran/C++/Python. DOE 10 CFR Part 810 eligibility is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in physics, engineering or related technical field from an accredited college/university is required; ABET preferred.
• Five+ years of demonstrable software deliverables with modeling and simulator development.
• Experience with thermal hydraulic and neutronic analysis software is highly desirable.
• Experience with RELAP5 and TRACE or similar codes.
• Proficient in Visual Studio or VS Code and Git-based version control.

Responsibilities

• Translate engineering documentation into plant models with high accuracy.
• Support development, testing and operation of the control room simulator and related software projects.
• Develop software per established procedures to maintain configuration control.
• Document defects using issue-tracking tools and suggest fixes.
• Provide solutions for errors and identify root causes affecting performance.
• Collaborate with team to ensure high-quality deliverables and meet long-range goals.
• Install and maintain hardware (computers/monitors/cables); travel may be required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Title: Software Engineer 4 (Commercial Nuclear)

Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting direct hireSoftware Engineer 4 (Commercial Nuclear) with our client that is fully remote.

• This is a senior level position based on experience and will be working within the Plant Services department assisting in the development of the software models that supports the control room simulator.
• This position will work in close collaboration with the operators and engineers to support a range of software development tasks such as updating plant models in accordance with engineering documentation.
• Ideal candidate is familiar with thermal hydraulic system codes (e.g., RELAP5 and Trace), and have experience with neutronic analysis codes (e.g., Simulate 3 and MCNP).
• Additional consideration for candidates that also have GSE software suite (i.e., SimExec and JTopmeret) experience.

Job Responsibilities:

• High standard to accurately reflect information from engineering documentation into plant models.
• Supports development, testing and operation of the control room simulator and other software projects.
• Develops software in accordance with the established procedures and processes to maintain configuration control.
• Documents software defects using issue tracking software.
• Provides recommended solutions when errors are encountered and seeks to identify common cause issues that affect performance of the software solution.
• Provides recommended solutions for problems using professional operational principles and company objectives.
• Works under consultative direction toward long-range goals and objectives. Collaborates with team members to ensure solutions are vetted and deliverables are of high quality.
• Performs hardware setup and maintenance such as installing computers/monitors and connecting cables. This may at times require limited travel to other locations outside of Corvallis at company’s expense.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

• Education/Certification: A minimum of a B.S. degree in physics, engineering or other technical degree from an accredited college or university is required. ABET accredited engineering program preferred. Five or more years of demonstrable software deliverables with a focus on modeling and simulator development.
• Experience: 5+ years of professional software development experience. Working with thermal hydraulic and neutronic analysis software is highly desirable.
• Previous experience with thermal hydraulic system codes (e.g., RELAP5 and Trace)
• Working knowledge of an integrated development environment such as Visual Studio or Visual Studio Code and a revision control system such as Git is required
• Previous experience with project management systems like Gitlab or Github
• Experience with developing software in Fortran, C++, and/or Python
• Previous experience with neutronic analysis codes (e.g., Simulate 3 and MCNP)
• Demonstrable understanding of basic thermal hydraulic engineering principles
• Demonstrable understanding of basic numerical methods to solve coupled partial differential equations associated with fluid flow and heat transfer
• Demonstrable aptitude to read and interpret P&ID drawings
• Previous experience with GSE simulation software (i.e., SimExec, JTopmeret, JElectric)
• Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
