Job summary

Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration in Huntsville, AL, seeks a Software Engineer (26-410) to join the Track Server team. Responsibilities include Java development, analyzing complex systems, and supporting integration and testing of mission-critical software for the C2BMC program.

Qualified candidates will have a Bachelor's in CS/Software Eng or related field with 2 years' experience (or equivalent), active Secret clearance, and knowledge of Java/J2EE; C++ is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or related field; 2 years experience or Master with 0 years.
  • Active Secret security clearance at time of application and ability to obtain required approvals.
  • Knowledge of Java/J2EE and OO development; C++ experience is a plus.
  • Understanding of coding standards, automated testing, build pipelines and configuration management.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and ability to work in a fast-paced, team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Will be responsible for software development in Java for the Track Server team.
  • Analyze and provide technical support for systems software products, including complex problem resolution.
  • Debug, configure, and maintain related software products and interfaces.
  • Work from specifications to develop or modify operating system applications.
  • Assist with design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation.
  • Interface with other system support groups to resolve problems and improve efficiency.

Based in Huntsville, AL, this role is essential to supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at the strategic, regional, and operational levels. This position does not provide relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options.

Position Overview: The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a key component of the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to plan ballistic missile defense operations systematically, collectively monitor the battle, and dynamically control networked sensors and weapon systems to achieve global and regional mission goals. C2BMC supports layered missile defense capabilities that enable an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It serves as a force multiplier by networking, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations, both globally and regionally, to improve performance. C2BMC is essential for all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the current and future capabilities of missile defense systems.

Essential Functions: Will be responsible for software development in Java for the Track Server team in Huntsville Under direction, provides experience across multiple systems and software disciplines, as well as general knowledge of related disciplines, applications, implications, and customer areas Responsible for analyzing and providing technical support for systems software products, including complex problem resolution, design, development, testing, operational integration, and user support Maintains currency, debugs, and configures related software products Works from specifications to develop or modify operating system applications Assists with the design, coding, benchmark testing, debugging, and documentation of programs Interfaces with other system support groups to resolve problems, set standards, and improve the operating system's overall efficiency Works on most phases of software systems programming applications and may require minor instruction and guidance in other phases

Basic Qualifications: Please list your current security clearance and IAT or relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable. A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field from an accredited university, along with 2 years of experience; or a Master’s degree (preferred) in a related field with 0 years of relevant work experience; or 6 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree Applicants must have a current, active in-scope Government-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start Understanding of software engineering and software development, with Java/J2EE experience or alternative OO development experience (additional experience with C++ also desired) Knowledge of software practices such as coding standards, automated testing, automated build pipelines, and configuration management Candidate must have oral, written, and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment Understanding of standard systems engineering design artifacts such as Use Cases and SysML diagrams Willingness to accept unexpected assignments

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of Agile development methodologies Experience in developing enterprise applications on Linux; Windows experience is also a plus Knowledge of DevSecOps and/or build management Familiarity with common software development and management tools such as Maven, Git/GitHub, Nexus, and Eclipse

Primary Level Salary Range: $87,600.00 - $131,400.00 The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
