Job summary

U.S. Bank is seeking a Software Engineer 2 to design, develop, and deliver high‑quality software in a modern React/Java/Spring Boot + cloud stack.

You’ll work across the full software lifecycle, collaborating with frontend, backend, and DevOps teams to build scalable microservices and robust UI components. The role emphasizes architecture input, performance optimization, and adherence to security standards in a cloud environment (Azure/AWS).

  • Design, code, test, debug, document, maintain, and modify computer programs of high complexity, significance, and risk.
  • Participate in application architecture functions including estimating and defining time tables, cost and project tasks.
  • Recommend solutions to improve business with a focus on core architecture, technology strategies and standards.
  • Guide others through change impact analysis.
  • Establish, refine and integrate development and test environment tools and software as needed.
  • Review, analyze, refine and integrate development and test environment tools and software as needed.
  • Create and recommend improvements to unit, test plans and testing process based on assessment of organizational needs.
  • Collaborate closely with teams in all stages of software development lifecycle including design, development and testing of the system.
  • Design basic and detailed program specifications while ensuring that expected application performance levels are achieved by managing interfaces, service levels, standards, and configurations.
  • Guide technical staff and business partners to investigate, review, and solve complex, multidisciplinary business problems.
  • Monitor operating efficiency and organizational needs of existing application systems and identify opportunities to fine-tune and optimize applications of developed projects and recommend technical solutions.
  • Demonstrate solid understanding of the business needs driving the projects

Job Description Software Engineer 2 (React, Java, Spring Boot, Cloud)

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Three to five years of relevant experience
Preferred Skills/Experience

Hands on working experience developing highly maintainable, extensible, and testable distributed systems. Expertise in Modern JavaScript (ES6+), ReactJS, Next.js, and Node.js, with strong knowledge of DOM manipulation, JavaScript object model, and modern front‑end development practices. Extensive experience designing and building scalable Micro Frontend architectures, reusable React components, and responsive design systems for enterprise‑grade web applications. Proficient in state management and API integration, including Redux, Flux, Context API, GraphQL, Apollo Client, Axios, and Fetch‑based service layers. Strong UI development skills using HTML5, CSS3, SCSS, Styled Components, and Webpack, with hands‑on experience optimizing application performance, caching, and build processes. Deep understanding of web application architecture, OOP principles, design patterns, authentication mechanisms (JWT), accessibility standards (WCAG 2.0+, ADA compliance), and cross‑browser compatibility. Experienced with modern DevOps and development ecosystems, including CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, CloudBees), Babel, NPM, Webpack4+, Artifactory, Git/TFS version control, and translating business requirements into high‑quality technical solutions. Proven ability to implement user interfaces against REST APIs. Hands‑on experience in Microservices/API development using Java/Spring boot. Experience in developing Cloud native applications in Azure or AWS is preferred. Experience on designing low latency applications designed for scalability and reliability with high throughput. Experience with open‑source technologies like Java, Spring boot, Kafka, etc. and containerization. Experience in Jenkins/Cloud bees, Gitlab, Apigee, Istio, Kubernetes, Rancher. Experience using modern and functional programming styles. Familiarity with source control management best practices. Good to have AI experience. Ability to analyze the bigger picture, identifying and prioritizing with the aim to consider more than one domain within an analysis. Preferred skill securing app and containers using certificates.

Pay Range: $105,400.00 - $124,000.00
