Job summary

Choice Hotels International, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer II in the Digital Experience domain for our Scottsdale, AZ office. This role focuses on building and operating scalable digital products for guests, with a four-day onsite hybrid work arrangement.

You will contribute to security, performance, and reliability of choicehotels.com, collaborate across teams, and help implement cloud-native solutions using AWS and open-source tools.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems or related discipline.
• 2+ years of progressive software development experience on transactional, enterprise-scale websites.
• Familiar with agile methodologies, SOA, and OO programming.

The Digital Experience domain is the team that aims to build and operate best-in-class hospitality digital products which enables elegant experiences for our guests wherever their journey takes them. Responsibilities

• Design, write, and maintain software to improve the security, availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency of choicehotels.com and related services, incorporating cloud and open-source tools when available and writing software of your own when nothing else fits the bill.
• Develop and deploy automated solutions to secure cloud development processes.
• Engage in service capacity planning and demand forecasting, anticipating performance bottlenecks and provisioning capacity, as necessary.
• Participate in software performance analysis and system tuning.
• Monitoring and alerting for various components across our infrastructure.
• Participate in rotating on-call duties, including after-hours/weekends on occasion.
• Consistently delivers software on-time and is constantly working to make accurate estimates and deliver those estimates.
• Takes initiative to identify and solve important problems, coordinating with others on cross-cutting technical issues.
• Identifies and proactively refactors technical debt before it grows into debt that requires significant work to resolve.
• Keeps up on industry trends and current technological standards, languages, coding techniques, utilities, and operational considerations.

Experience, Skills & Competencies

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or related discipline.
• Minimum of 2 years of progressive experience in software development, including previous experience in the development of highly transactional, mission critical websites, integrated with large-scale enterprise systems.
• Knowledge of agile software development methodologies, Service Oriented Architecture, and object-oriented programming methodologies.
• Proficient in software development best practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Solid developer within the following technologies: Java (3+ years) Spring MVC, Spring Boot, JMS Web service protocols, such as SOAP or REST Cloud / AWS
• Knowledge of network, routing, and web related protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP, HTTPS)
• Experienced in secure coding practices
• Have a clear understanding of encryption/decryption methods, authentication, and common IP/application attacks.
• Good understanding of information security principles and best practices.
• Experienced in identifying and resolving security issues such as SQLi, XSS, CSRF, and business logic flaws across large code bases

Preferred Experience

• Other Preferred Experience: React, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, XML, XSL
• Familiarity with the OWASP Top Ten and CWE Top 25
• RDBMS, SQL, NoSQL Web analytics tools (Omniture, App Dynamics, Google Analytics)
• Familiarity with build and CI tools such as Maven, Gradle, Jenkins and Sonar
• Knowledge of Akamai CDN and Bot Manager
• Exceptional analytical skills.
• Exceptional verbal, written and listening communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, influencing, prioritization and decision-making skills

Your Team

This is an individual contributor role that will report to the Sr. Manager – Software Engineering, Digital Experience. You will work as part of the Digital Experience API team and collaborate with cross functional departments on a regular basis.
