Job summary

Garmin International is seeking a Software Engineer 2 for Aviation Web Development, with on-site opportunities in Chanhassen, MN, Chandler, AZ, or Olathe, KS. You will build upon existing software to develop customer-facing Garmin aviation products.

Responsibilities include designing components with TypeScript, Angular/React, and MapLibre, leveraging CM systems, build tools, debuggers, and conducting code reviews. You may mentor junior engineers and contribute to research on new technologies.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering or related field with 1+ year experience, or equivalent education/experience.
• GPA 3.0+.
• Proficient in TypeScript, Angular/React, MapLibre or similar.
• Proficient with CM systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators, and logic analyzers.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement new functionalities in TypeScript with Angular/React and MapLibre.
• Use CM systems, build processes, and debuggers in development workflow.
• May serve as technical lead for derivative software projects.
• Participate in peer code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
• Perform root cause analysis and outline corrective actions.
• Mentor junior engineers (Software Engineer 1).
• Contribute to technical research on new technologies.

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Software Engineer 2 - Aviation Web Development, for Garmin's Chanhassen, MN, or Chandler, AZ, or Olathe, KS locations. In this role, you will be responsible for building upon existing software solutions to develop software for customer facing Garmin aviation products.

Essential Functions

• Creates and executes designs for small sets of new functionalities as part of a software project using Typescript, Angular/React, and MapLibre or other selected languages
• Utilizes software engineering tools such as configuration management systems, build processes, and debuggers in the software development process
• May perform as a technical leader or Lead Software Engineer for derivative software project
• Collaborates and adds value through participation in peer code reviews, providing comments and suggestions
• Provides reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques
• Performs technical root cause analysis and outlines corrective action for given problems
• Contributes to technical research on new technologies
• Estimates level of effort, evaluates new options of similar technology, offers suggestions to improve processes, and provides feedback on some electrical design aspects
• Serves as a mentor to less experienced software engineers (Software Engineer 1)

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math, Physics or related field AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Excellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)
• Demonstrated proficiency and experience necessary to develop moderately complex software in Typescript, Angular/React, and MapLibre or other selected languages
• Proficient knowledge, utilization and mastery of relevant software engineering tools (configuration management systems, build processes, debuggers, emulators, simulators and logic analyzers)

Desired Qualifications

• Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
• Full Stack Web Development experience
• Aviation industry experience or a passion for aviation
