Job summary

Berkley Hunt is partnering with an early-stage startup rethinking the AI supply chain, seeking a founding engineer to design, build, and deploy production AI systems from scratch in San Francisco. You\'ll own significant technical direction and shape both product and architecture.

Berkley Hunt is partnering with an early-stage startup rethinking the infrastructure powering the AI supply chain. Rather than building another AI application, they're focused on modernising the systems behind AI adoption, targeting industries that have seen little innovation despite enormous market potential.

Working alongside a small team of experienced engineers and founders, you'll play a key role in designing, building, and deploying production AI systems from the ground up. This is a true founding engineering opportunity with significant ownership, fast decision-making, and the chance to shape both the product and technical direction of the business.

What You'll Do

• Build and deploy production-grade AI agents that solve real customer problems
• Architect and ship full-stack product features from concept through production
• Design AI evaluation frameworks to measure and improve model performance

What We're Looking For

• Strong software engineering fundamentals developed before the LLM era
• Experience building and deploying production-grade AI agents, not just prototypes
• Proven experience shipping production full-stack applications
• Comfortable owning production incidents from investigation through resolution
• Experience working in fast-moving startup environments with a high degree of ownership
• Strong communication skills and a pragmatic, execution-focused mindset

Nice to Have

• Regular user of AI development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar
• Experience building AI evaluation frameworks or reinforcement and feedback systems
• Familiarity working with large-scale application data and AI infrastructure
• Onsite in the United States
• Must be a US Citizen
• Comfortable working in a high-intensity 9-9-6 environment
