Job description

About us

Edpuzzle is a leading edtech company with offices in San Francisco and Barcelona and over 12 years of history helping teachers find and create exciting, interactive learning experiences. We're a software company built by teachers, for teachers, committed to empowering educators with intuitive software to engage students all in one place, from video learning and beyond.

Millions of teachers and students around the world are already using Edpuzzle to make education more equitable and engaging. If you’re passionate about making an impact and find joy in learning, you’ll feel right at home with us. Check out the job details below to see if Edpuzzle could be the right fit for you!

About working at Edpuzzle

Working at Edpuzzle means joining a global team dedicated to enhancing education for all. Picture a place where you can connect with your teammates, whether remotely or in person, whenever you need support. A place where one day you're helping shape one of the biggest edtech platforms in the world, and the next day you're doing a teambuilding activity with your coworkers. A place where everyone has been selected because they're the best at what they do, and where your manager and team trust your decisions fully.

We value work-life harmony, which is why we’ve embraced a “remote-first” approach that emphasizes flexibility and choice while fostering meaningful engagement. It's no surprise that in our latest employee satisfaction survey, Work-Life Balance (92%), Leadership (85%), and Employee Engagement (84%) were highlighted as our top drivers, because we genuinely care about creating an environment where people can thrive, feel supported, and do their best work. A place where you're encouraged to learn and grow, because education is the cornerstone of everything we do.

About the process

The goal of our interview process is to learn about each other. Each step is structured to help us understand your unique talents and contributions, while offering you insight into our team and culture.

For a detailed breakdown of our recruitment process, please refer to our Selection Process Guide which outlines every step of our candidate journey. A dedicated member of our team will support you through each step, and you'll have the opportunity to meet various Edpuzzlers along the way.

About the role

We’re looking for a Software Engineer to join our Product team in Spain and help us build thoughtful, reliable experiences for teachers and students. We’re looking for someone who enjoys solving real user problems, works with initiative, and is motivated by learning and growing in a highly collaborative environment.

In this role, you’ll contribute across the stack, partnering closely with Product, Design, and Engineering to understand problems, shape solutions, build features, and improve the product with user impact always in mind. You’ll bring your own perspective, question assumptions, and take ownership from problem understanding through implementation, helping drive better technical and product decisions along the way. You’ll also continuously learn with the aim of taking on problems of increasing complexity over time, including the possibility of leading projects with technical complexity, product complexity, or both.

Technically speaking, we use React and Redux for our frontend and Node and Express applying DDD and hexagonal architecture in the backend. We use MongoDB for our database and are fully hosted on AWS which we also use to store, encode and stream our own pool of videos. Our Engineering team also has access to Claude Code as part of a modern development environment that supports learning, experimentation, and day-to-day work. We work with testing, trunk based development, CI/CD, and we follow engineering best practices without compromising on code quality or reliability.

About our team

We’re a deeply product-focused team. Engineers at Edpuzzle are expected to think beyond implementation: understanding the user problem, challenging assumptions, making thoughtful trade-offs, and contributing to better product decisions that elevate the experience for our users.

We work in cross-functional, rotational teams, fostering close partnerships between Engineering, Product, Infrastructure, and other key areas such as Design, Data, QA, and Security. This gives Engineers broad exposure across the product and creates opportunities to develop both technical depth and strong product judgment over time.

At our core is an environment where every voice is heard and valued, and where each team member plays a role in shaping project strategies, not just execution. We value proactiveness and curiosity to understand the bigger picture. Engineers are not just encouraged but expected to think critically, form their own opinions, make thoughtful use of modern tools, propose solutions, and take ownership. We’ve built a culture where ideas are shared openly and assumptions are challenged in service of building a better product for our users.

About the job
  • Work closely with Product and Engineering to understand user needs, explore solutions, and contribute to product and technical discussions with your own perspective.

  • Take ownership of the problems you work on by understanding why they matter to users, doing your own research, proposing solutions, and driving implementation with support from teammates when needed.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teammates to keep projects moving with efficiency and focus, while also delivering the best possible outcome on time.

  • Develop pixel perfect designs in partnership with the Design team.

  • Build simple, clean, testable, and reliable code across the stack.

  • Continuously learn how different parts of Edpuzzle’s software work, why they were built that way, where they can be improved, and how to use the tools available to you to keep growing.

  • Make effective use of the tools available to you, including AI where appropriate, to learn faster, work more effectively, and move problems forward, while maintaining strong judgment and high standards.

  • Troubleshoot, debug and upgrade software.

  • Write technical documentation that helps others understand decisions, systems, and implementation details.

  • Contribute wherever needed to help the team deliver meaningful outcomes.

About you
  • 3 to 5 years professional experience in frontend, backend, or full-stack development.

  • You have experience writing well-tested JavaScript/TypeScript code and have delivered features end-to-end in real-world systems.

  • You have strong experience building complex interactive UIs in React and developing backend systems in Node.js, ideally in high-traffic environments.

  • You are comfortable working across the stack. If you’re not already full-stack, you’re aiming to get there.

  • You are product-oriented: you make technical decisions with the final user in mind, and you care about solving the right problems, not just building things right.

  • You are pragmatic with technology: you understand that tech is a means to solve product problems, never the end goal.

  • You use AI and other modern tools responsibly to support and improve your work, never as a substitute for the understanding, judgment, or ownership of your output.

  • You are an avid learner who turns curiosity into action. You ask thoughtful questions, challenge assumptions, and proactively look for better ways to solve the right problems.

  • You work with ownership and autonomy, manage your time well, and are flexible when priorities or context change.

  • You communicate your ideas clearly and adapt your message to your audience.

  • You feel comfortable in spoken Spanish and written English, as they are the main language of our engineers’ day-to-day operations.

  • You are based in Spain and have a work permit to work in Spain.

Bonus skills
  • Experience working in startup or scaleup environments and in cross-functional teams

  • Experience navigating ambiguous environments and contributing beyond pure implementation

  • Experience with Redux for client state management

  • Experience with Express.js and MongoDB

  • Experience with complex backend architectures such as Hexagonal Architecture and Domain Driven Design (DDD)

  • … or another amazing skill you bring to the table that we haven’t thought of yet!

What we offer
  • Salary between €38K – €50K based on your professional experience

  • Remote-first within Spain, with our Barcelona office to come as much or as little as you'd like

  • 24 days’ paid holidays plus December 24th and 31st

  • Flexible remuneration for health insurance of immediate family members (spouse and/or children)

  • Fully stocked pantry with a variety of snacks and drinks in the Barcelona office

  • Team-building events during working hours to connect, learn, and create lasting bonds with passionate colleagues
