Job summary

Current, a leading consumer fintech platform based in NYC, is seeking a Software Engineer to join our backend team. You will work on scalable services in a distributed microservices architecture using Java, with a cloud-first stack (GKE, MongoDB, Spanner, Pub/Sub, Dataflow, BigQuery).

You should have 2+ years of backend experience on the JVM, a bachelor's in CS/EE, and a drive to own features from design to production in a fast-paced, impact-focused environment. Salary range is $150,000–$200,000.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of software engineering experience with backend on a JVM language (preferably Java).
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• Strong knowledge of algorithms, data structures, and OO design.
• Experience with RDBMS or NoSQL databases and cloud-hosted services.

Responsibilities

• Own well-scoped features from design to production in a distributed microservices setup.
• Build and maintain backend services within a scalable architecture.
• Contribute to data-intensive applications and real-time data processing and ML-enabled features.
• Participate in code reviews and uphold engineering quality, testing, monitoring and docs.

SOFTWARE ENGINEER Current is a leading consumer fintech platform transforming financial access for everyday Americans with over 6 million members. Current's Engineering team is dedicated to building our products and infrastructure. Our applications run on Google Cloud Kubernetes Engine, we support a proprietary banking core that can scale to handle millions of transactions a day. Our stack includes MongoDB and Spanner for persistence, Pub/Sub for asynchronous event processing, Dataflow for data transformation paired with BigQuery and Google Cloud Storage for data storage and analytics. Our backend services are written in Java and our data pipelines are built in Scala.

We work across a broad set of domains, including user-facing products like liquidity offerings and reward programs, infrastructure for machine learning and experimentation, real-time fraud detection and identity protection, and large-scale transaction processing across multiple payment rails.

We are looking for a Software Engineer to join our team in New York. This role has a salary range of $150,000 - $200,000. You will work alongside senior engineers to build and improve backend services, contribute to system design discussions, and deliver features that impact millions of members. The ideal candidate should have a background in backend development and experience working with cloud-hosted services. This person should be eager to grow, comfortable taking ownership of well-scoped projects, and motivated to work in a fast-paced environment.

About You

• 2+ years of software engineering experience, with backend experience using a JVM language, preferably Java
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
• Strong foundation in algorithms, data structures, and object-oriented design principles
• Experience with RDBMS or NoSQL databases
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
• Experience with cloud-hosted services, like AWS or GCP is a plus
