Luzern Risk in New York is seeking a Software Engineer to build the AI-native platform that underpins our captive insurance business. You will own features end-to-end, from the frontend interfaces used by experts and clients to the services and data behind them.
You will work closely with users, ship rapidly, and ensure quality. The role emphasizes AI integration, practical product thinking, and ownership in a small, fast-moving team.
Luzern Risk is a technology-first captive insurance manager. We form and run captive insurance companies end to end: structuring, licensing, governance, accounting, claims, and regulatory compliance, delivered through an AI-native platform where software agents run the workflows and licensed experts direct, approve, and advise. The model is working: 15+ captives under management, more than $50M in premium, licenses in 11 U.S. domiciles plus the Cayman Islands, and zero client turnover.
The mandate for the Software Engineer is to build the platform that runs this business and to stay close to the people who use it. Engineering is small and deliberate, and every hire moves the roadmap. This is not a role where you pull tickets someone else wrote. You will sit with the people whose work our software supports, understand what they need, and ship the thing that solves it.
You will own features end to end and treat AI as a core building block rather than a feature bolted on the side. The best product ideas here come from watching a licensed expert or a client struggle with a real task, not from a planning document, and you will be close enough to that work to have those ideas yourself.
We don’t expect you to have used every tool in this list on day one. A strong full-stack foundation and the ability to pick up new patterns quickly are what matter most.
Captive management is the entry point, not the destination. The platform we are building for our own book is designed to become infrastructure for how companies finance risk. Early product engineers will have shaped the systems, and the standards, that the rest of engineering grows on top of.
