Job Description

AV PRIME contract is seeking a Software Engineer Level 2 to work as part of a small and exciting development team. As a Software Engineer 2, you will develop, maintain, and optimize user interfaces using Node, ReactJS, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS3, collaborating closely with team members in an Agile environment to create user-friendly web applications that meet mission needs.

Responsibilities

• Translate wireframes, mockups, and prototypes into functional, responsive, and scalable user interfaces.
• Collaborate with mission customers and government leadership to capture requirements and recommend product enhancements.
• Ensure UI design is consistent with established design principles and usability standards.
• Utilize UI libraries, frameworks, and components to streamline development and enhance reusability.
• Perform testing across approved browsers to ensure a seamless user experience.
• Debug and troubleshoot UI issues, actively seeking opportunities to improve the interface.
• Engage in code reviews, providing and receiving constructive feedback to maintain high‑quality code.
• Identify and implement performance optimizations to enhance overall user experience.

Qualifications

• Fourteen (14) years’ experience as a Software Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline, or four (4) years of additional experience on projects with similar software processes.
• Experience designing high‑performance web‑based graph visualization interfaces capable of rendering large‑scale datasets while maintaining responsiveness.
• Strong UI development skills using ReactJS and automated JavaScript test frameworks (ESLint and Jest).
• Experience gathering user needs, creating wireframes, mockups, prototypes, and user stories, translating them into clean, reusable, scalable frontend code.
• Strong experience developing and maintaining scalable server‑side applications and microservices using Node.js and Express.js.
• Proven ability to design, implement, and consume well‑structured, secure, and documented RESTful APIs.
• Proficiency with GitLab for version control, CI/CD pipelines, and project management.
• Knowledge of Section 508/WCAG accessibility standards and implementation.
• Experience with containers (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes, Helm).
• Ability to work independently on a small team, taking ownership of tasks and managing development timelines.
• Exceptional communication and presentation skills, including experience in a SAFe environment and the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.

Desired Skills

• Scrum Lead experience and certification.
• Familiarity with Node and ReactJS packages such as Babel, nwsapi, Winston, graphology, ag‑grid, and sigma.

Additional Information

• Work performed in a contractor facility in Annapolis Junction.
• Both low and high side access.
• Potential for partial telework (upon program approval).

Salary Range

$125,000.00 - $270,000.00 (AV pay range for this job level is a general guideline only; official compensation is determined by several factors).
