Job description

We are the movers of the world and the makers of the future. We get up every day, roll up our sleeves, and build a better world—together. At Ford, we're all a part of something bigger than ourselves. Are you ready to change the way the world moves?

Do you believe technology can help technicians diagnose and repair vehicles more efficiently? We do! Delivering exceptional vehicle service experiences requires reliable, scalable, and secure digital platforms that provide technicians with the right data, files, and diagnostic capabilities when they need them. That’s where the Ford Diagnostic Service Platform (FDSP) makes an impact.

FDSP is a collection of cloud-based Java microservices and data repositories that interfaces with client tools used by vehicle service technicians. The platform includes more than 30 microservices, 450 APIs, 14 PostgreSQL and MongoDB databases, and more than 80 TB of file storage. FDSP connects with internal and external systems to provide the information and files technicians need to diagnose and repair Ford vehicles.

We are seeking a highly motivated Software Engineer to join the FDSP software delivery team. In this role, you will design, develop, enhance, deploy, and support cloud-native microservices that advance Ford’s vehicle diagnostics capabilities. You should have a strong technical background and demonstrate experience in Java, Spring Boot, REST services, Google Cloud Platform, DevOps, and Agile software delivery.

Responsibilities include the end-to-end development and support of microservice-based application software, from feature design and backlog refinement through testing, deployment, production monitoring, and continuous improvement. Working closely with business partners, product teams, and cross-functional engineers, you will deliver high-quality, resilient, and scalable solutions that support business-critical vehicle service operations.

  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and support microservice-based application software using Java, Spring Boot, and RESTful services
  • Build and enhance cloud-native applications and services on Google Cloud Platform, including Cloud Run and related GCP capabilities
  • Contribute to feature development, user-story definition, technical design, backlog refinement, sprint planning, and delivery activities as part of an Agile team
  • Collaborate with business partners, product teams, and engineering teams on solution design, development, integration, testing, deployment, and operational support
  • Maintain source code, application builds, release processes, and technical documentation
  • Use DevOps tools and practices to automate software delivery through CI/CD pipelines, including GitHub workflows, Tekton, Jenkins, Gradle, SonarQube, and Fossa
  • Apply secure software-development and code-quality practices, including automated testing, test-driven development, vulnerability scanning, and code analysis
  • Monitor application and system performance using Dynatrace or similar observability platforms; investigate incidents and assess production impacts
  • Troubleshoot complex application, integration, performance, and availability issues; perform root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions
  • Identify and drive system improvements that enhance application availability, reliability, performance, scalability, security, and quality
  • Partner with infrastructure, platform, security, and operations teams to ensure solutions meet enterprise standards and operational requirements
  • Support data integrations and persistence layers using PostgreSQL, BigQuery, Firestore, MongoDB, and related technologies
