Job summary

Nebula in El Segundo is hiring to own and operate the services behind our customer-facing web app and internal platform. You’ll build typed services in TypeScript and Python, ensure uptime across a self-hosted Kubernetes stack, and support the Vue 3 frontend with robust data models in MongoDB.

You’ll own reliability end-to-end—from tests and incidents to delivery pipelines—while collaborating with AI tooling and scaling telemetry. Equity awaits the right candidate, with on-site work required.

Qualifications

• Requires a degree in computer science, software engineering or related field
• Hands-on experience shipping and operating production services in TypeScript or Python
• Comfort with queues, state machines, idempotency, retries and back-pressure
• Ability to work end-to-end from Vue 3 frontend to backend data
• Ability to trace outages to root cause via logs and metrics
• Willingness to work on-site in El Segundo and contribute to equity goals

What to Expect

Your role is to build and run the services behind our customer-facing web application and our internal platform, along with the control plane that connects a fleet of production machines to both.

That is platform work and machine work in one job: typed services in TypeScript and Python over MongoDB, identity and observability around them, a gateway and scheduler that carry an order to a finished unit, and the Vue 3 application customers order through.

You will own the reliability of that platform: tests at every tier, load and soak work, incident follow-through, the delivery pipeline onto a self-hosted Kubernetes cluster, and the MCP toolkits agents drive the same APIs through.

Every role works with our AI systems daily. What can be deterministic, must be. You need no AI background; we prefer people without one. We hire for your knowledge and experience in the field first, so you can steer the ship; the tooling is a learning curve we expect you to take on.

What You'll Do

• Typed services in TypeScript on Express and Python on FastAPI, with queues and workers
• Data modeling in MongoDB: schemas, migrations, indexes, query performance, idempotency and consistency
• Identity and access: single sign-on over OAuth2 and OpenID Connect, sessions, role-based access control
• Device connectivity: a gateway over WebSockets and mutual TLS, telemetry ingestion, remote firmware deployment
• Orchestration and scheduling: the job state machine, retries and escalation, priority, slot timing, preemption
• The customer web application in Vue 3: file upload and parsing, ordering, payment, accounts
• Observability and incident response: structured logging, metrics, tracing, alerting, load and soak testing
• Delivery and tooling: containers, continuous integration, Helm and Kubernetes, and MCP toolkits for agents

What You'll Bring

• A degree in computer science, software engineering or computer engineering, or equivalent experience
• Hands-on experience shipping and operating production services in TypeScript or Python, against a database you designed
• Fluent with queues, state machines, idempotency, retries and back-pressure, and able to explain a failure mode
• Comfortable across the stack, from a Vue 3 front end to the data behind it
• The judgment to take an outage back to its root cause from logs and metrics
• Ready to build first versions and write them so the engineers after you can run them
• Bonus: embedded or firmware experience, telemetry at scale, or running Kubernetes in production

$100k to $250k base salary, plus equity
