Job summary

Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI is seeking a Software Solutions Engineer in the V&V Automation & Architecture team. You will design and develop software to automate workflows, improve test data quality, and provide visibility into testing status and KPIs.

You will build integrations between JIRA, Jama, TestRail, and BI platforms using REST, SQL, Python, and related technologies, and develop live dashboards in PowerBI or Atlassian Analytics to drive data-driven decisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering or electrical engineering.
• 5+ years of Python development experience.
• 5+ years of SQL experience for data extraction, transformation, and reporting.
• 5+ years of REST API development/integration with software tools or enterprise systems.
• 2+ years of BI, analytics, or dashboarding experience with PowerBI, Atlassian Analytics, Tableau, Looker, Grafana, or similar.

Responsibilities

• Develop software solutions, scripts, integrations, dashboards, and automation to improve how V&V teams plan, execute, track, and report testing activities.
• Support L2–L4 testing processes, their interconnectivity, dependencies, and handoffs with Ford development and release processes.
• Establish toolchain usage guidelines, test tool configuration standards, and process documentation for consistent execution.

In this position...

The successful candidate will be part of the V&V Automation & Architecture team, working within the Test Strategy, Process, Toolchain and Reporting team. This team is responsible for defining, improving, and automating the processes, tools, integrations, and reporting capabilities that enable effective verification and validation across Ford’s software and vehicle programs.

In this role, you will design and develop software solutions that automate manual workflows, improve test data quality, integrate key engineering tools, and provide meaningful visibility into testing status, traceability, compliance, KPIs, and program deliverables. You will help establish and maintain the connective tissue across tools such as JIRA, Jama, TestRail, BI/reporting platforms, and other internal systems.

What you'll do...

• Develop software solutions, scripts, integrations, dashboards, and automation capabilities that improve how V&V teams plan, execute, track, and report testing activities.
• Support the definition and implementation of L2, L3, and L4 testing processes, including their interconnectivity, dependencies, handoffs, and alignment with Ford development and release processes.
• Establish day-to-day toolchain usage guidelines, test tool configuration standards, and process documentation to ensure consistent execution across teams and programs.
• Build and maintain integrations between engineering tools such as JIRA, Jama, TestRail, BI platforms, and other internal systems using REST APIs, SQL, Python, and related technologies.
• Automate manual processes and workflows related to test data management, compliance checks, reporting, traceability, release readiness, and KPI tracking.
• Support standardization of test data across tools, including data structure, field usage, naming conventions, tagging strategies, and reporting expectations.
• Develop live dashboards, visualizations, and reports using tools such as PowerBI, Atlassian Analytics, or similar BI platforms to provide actionable insight into V&V status, progress, quality, risks, and deliverables.
• Create and maintain automated test data migration utilities, legacy data cleanup scripts, and test data compliance checks to improve data quality and reduce manual effort.

You’ll have...

• Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrictrical Engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
• 5+ years of experience developing software solutions using Python.
• 5+ years of experience writing and optimizing SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, reporting, or analytics use cases.
• 5+ years of experience working with REST APIs and building integrations between software tools, platforms, or enterprise systems.
• 2+ years of experience working with BI, analytics, or dashboarding tools such as PowerBI, Atlassian Analytics, Tableau, Looker, Grafana, or similar platforms.
• 2+ years of utilizing assistive AI tools effectively to support software development, debugging, documentation, analysis, and productivity.

Even better, you may have...

• Experience with JIRA configuration, JIRA automation, custom fields, workflows, dashboards, filters, JQL, or integration patterns.
• Experience with Jama, TestRail, or similar requirements management and test management platforms.
• Experience building data pipelines, reporting automations, or integrations across engineering lifecycle management tools.
• Experience with test strategy, verification and validation processes, software release processes, or product development lifecycle practices.
• Experience with test traceability, requirements-to-test mapping, DVP&R processes, or compliance-oriented reporting.
• Experience developing reusable Python libraries, command-line tools, backend services, or scheduled automation jobs.
• Experience with source control and collaborative development practices using Git, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, and similar tools.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated quality checks, or deployment automation.
• Strong documentation skills, including the ability to clearly describe processes, workflows, tool usage, technical designs, data flows, and integration behavior.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to break down complex workflows and convert them into scalable software or process solutions.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills. Self-driven, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced engineering environment with evolving priorities.

This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $115,000-$192,900.

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
