Position Overview

Metronome is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support the development and modernization of enterprise catalog and metadata services for the Air Force and Intelligence Community.

This role will help build secure, scalable, cloud-native capabilities that enable analysts and mission users to discover, curate, search, access, and share data across applications and security environments. The Senior Software Engineer will work across software development, cloud architecture, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and distributed systems while providing technical leadership to the broader engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy scalable cloud-native applications and microservices across AWS, Azure, or GCP environments.

• Develop microservice architectures, APIs, and distributed data flows supporting enterprise catalog and metadata capabilities.

• Build and maintain containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes.

• Support Kubernetes architecture, networking, scaling, observability, security, and multi-cluster deployments.

• Design and maintain CI/CD pipelines incorporating automated testing, secure software packaging, artifact management, and deployment across multiple security enclaves.

• Develop Infrastructure as Code and repeatable deployment workflows using tools such as Terraform, Helm, and Kustomize.

• Implement and support cloud security capabilities including IAM, secrets management, network policies, access controls, and Zero Trust principles.

• Integrate logging, metrics, distributed tracing, dashboards, and alerting to improve system reliability and observability.

• Troubleshoot complex issues across cloud infrastructure, distributed applications, networking, and production environments.

• Collaborate with product teams, SREs, cybersecurity engineers, and mission stakeholders to ensure solutions align with broader system and mission requirements.

• Participate in architecture reviews, technical planning, trade studies, and risk analysis.

• Develop architecture diagrams, technical documentation, operational runbooks, and engineering recommendations.

• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and contribute to code reviews, engineering standards, and team best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience.

• 5+ years of professional software/cloud engineering experience.

• Hands‑on experience with at least one major cloud platform: AWS, Azure, or GCP.

• Strong experience with Kubernetes, including application deployment, networking, scaling, and observability.

• Strong experience with Docker and containerized application development.

• Experience designing and developing cloud-native microservices.

• Proficiency with a modern programming language, with Python or C++ preferred.

• Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines with automated testing and secure release workflows.

• Understanding of distributed systems, cloud networking, and API design.

• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting DoD, Intelligence Community, aerospace, or other mission‑critical or highly regulated environments.

• Experience with Kubernetes multi‑cluster environments, cluster hardening, and service mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd.

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code and deployment tools such as Terraform, Helm, Kustomize, or CloudFormation.

• Experience implementing GitOps deployment workflows.

• Experience with event‑driven or streaming architectures using technologies such as Kafka, Kinesis, or Pub/Sub.

• Experience implementing observability solutions including distributed tracing, metrics, dashboards, and automated alerting.

• Strong understanding of cloud security, IAM, key and secrets management, policy‑as‑code, and Zero Trust architectures.

• Experience leading technical efforts, making architecture recommendations, or serving as a technical SME.

• Experience mentoring junior and mid-level software engineers.

• Relevant certifications such as AWS Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, GCP Professional Cloud Engineer, CKA, CKAD, or CKS.
