Job summary

Serco Inc. in Colorado Springs seeks a Software Engineer (Journeyman) to sustain and modernize the Space Force Satellite Control Network (SCN).

You will support TT&C3 telemetry, tracking, and control for DoD and allied satellites, working across multiple sites including Schriever SFB and Vandenberg SFB. The role emphasizes Agile development, collaboration with Product Owners and Scrum Masters, and developing software solutions while documenting processes and improving operations.

Qualifications

  • Active Secret security clearance or ability to obtain one
  • US Citizenship or eligible for security clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field with 2+ years of related experience
  • Experience in software development using Java, C, and/or C++
  • Experience with Linux/Unix or scripting languages (Perl/Python)
  • Testing/Scripting experience
  • willingness to travel up to 25%

Responsibilities

  • Perform software studies to find replacements for existing mission software
  • Conduct trade studies and proof-of-concept development and testing
  • Develop new software release processes
  • Review, analyze, and modify programming systems to support applications
  • Collaborate with users to clarify program objectives

Position Description & Qualifications

Are you a Software Engineer looking for an opportunity to make an impact every day? Serco is the place for you! Discover this exciting opportunity in Colorado Springs! Our Software Engineer (Journeyman) will provide software support for the sustainment and modernization of the US Space Force Satellite Control Network (SCN). The SCN provides highly reliable telemetry, tracking, command, communication and control (TT&C3) for more than 170 Department of Defense (DoD), National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), civil and allied satellites.

The SCN consists various satellite tracking stations across the globe and operational support nodes at Schriever Space Force Base (SFB) and Vandenberg SFB. Our Software Engineer will perform software sustainment engineering on the various mission and non-mission systems using Agile Software Development.

In This Role, You Will
  • Perform software studies to find replacements for existing mission software
  • Perform trade studies and proof of concept development and testing
  • Develop new software release processes
  • Review, analyze, and modify programming systems including encoding, testing, debugging and installing to support application systems
  • Consult with users to identify current operating procedures and to clarify program objectives
  • Coordinate closely with team members, Product Owners and Scrum Masters to ensure User Story alignment and implementation to customer use cases.
  • Analyze (through demonstrations, proof of concept, performance, and end-to-end testing) and effectively coordinate Infrastructure needs driven by developed software to meet customer mission needs
  • Determine operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions.
  • Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have
  • The ability to obtain an active secret security clearance.
  • US Citizenship
  • A Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts and 2 years of related experience
  • Experience in software development using Java, C and or C++
  • Experience in at least one of the following:
    • Linux, Unix, Pearl/Python
  • Testing/Scripting experience
  • The ability to travel on occasion up to 25%.
Additional Desired Experience And Skills
  • An active Secret clearance or higher
  • Experience writing and executing test scripts
  • Experience on DoD programs and interaction with government stakeholders - SCN experience is a plus.
  • Experience using the following COTS tools: VersionOne, GitHub, SharePoint, Fortify
  • Writing custom simulations
  • Agile Software Development experience
  • Agile certifications (software development oriented)
