Job summary

Riverside Research Institute seeks a software engineer to develop, integrate, and deploy full-stack applications. You will work within SWAT to design, build, test, and maintain software using modern tools and agile practices.

Applicants must hold a BS in CS/CE/SE and have 3+ years of full-stack experience, with proficiency in Java, Python, C#/C++, JavaScript, REST APIs, Swagger, Linux, GitLab/Jenkins, Docker, OCI, and Kubernetes. Top Secret clearance readiness is required.

Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience developing full-stack applications.
  • 3+ years in at least one major language (Java, Python, C#, C++, JavaScript).
  • Experience designing REST APIs and documenting with Swagger/OpenAPI.
  • Experience with Linux/Unix environments.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (GitLab, Jenkins) and container tech (Docker, OCI).
  • Experience using Kubernetes and VM deployment environments.
  • Experience with agile software development.
  • Strong written/verbal communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and deploy software applications.
  • Define API specifications for performance, scalability, and availability.
  • Develop utilities and frameworks to support development processes.
  • Document test cases and collaborate with testers and partners to resolve issues.
  • Configure CI/CD pipelines and manage build artifacts and scripts.

Riverside Research is an independent National Security Nonprofit dedicated to research and development in the national interest. We provide high-end technical services, research and development, and prototype solutions to some of the country’s most challenging technical problems. Position Overview

The Riverside Research Software Applications Team (SWAT) is seeking a full-time software engineer for developing, integrating, and deploying software applications. Experience with Scrum (or similar agile software development methodologies), as well as familiarity with continuous integration/continuous testing/continuous delivery processes and tools, is essential. Candidates must be technically proficient and have real-word experience devising practical and sustainable solutions.

The SWAT is an innovative team of experienced software developers, engineers, and architects who rapidly design, develop, build, and deploy valuable (i.e., useful, usable, used) software applications and services. Team members are experienced in a multitude of languages, libraries, frameworks, off-the-shelf products, environments, processes, and policies. The SWAT addresses market demand through the proven practices of Design Thinking, Lean Startup, and Agile Software Development, and we often develop prototype applications in days versus weeks and months. Our focus is on rapidly delivering valuable and desirable solutions to our customers.

Responsibilities
  • Job Responsibilities:

    • Design, build, containerize, and test software applications
    • Design and define API specifications for high performance, scalability, and availability
    • Code, debug, test and support utilities, tools, and frameworks to support the application development process
    • Document test cases, expected test results, test data requirements, and collaborate with testing teams and business partners to resolve testing problems
    • Configure build pipelines, perform static and dynamic security analysis, and store build artifacts including container images and deployment scripts in artifact repositories
    • Perform continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD)
    • Identify and research issues with applications and recommend/implement solutions
    • Perform research on the state-of-the-art and applicability of software solutions
    • Other duties as assigned as pertains to software development
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret clearance with SCI adjudication
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or other major field of study
  • 3 or more years of experience in developing full-stack applications
  • 3 or more years of experience in at least one major programming language (i.e., Java, Python, C#/C++, JavaScript)
  • Experience with designing, creating, and consuming REST APIs and documenting using Swagger and OpenAPI specification
  • Experience with Linux/Unix
  • Experience performing CI/CD and using applications like GitLab, Jenkins, Docker, and Nexus 3
  • Experience building OCI compliant container images
  • Experience using container orchestration applications including Kubernetes
  • Experience working on deployment environments including virtual machines
  • Experience performing agile software development
  • Self-motivated, detail oriented, responsible team player able to work independently with minimal daily direction; effective/efficient written/verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work and interact with technically and organizationally diverse personnel

  • Experience in implementing artificial intelligence services
  • Experience working/developing in multi-domain, multi-cloud, hybrid-cloud environments

  • Experience testing code/applications using current best practices and tools
  • Experience working with cloud environments like AWS and/or Azure
  • Scrum training/certification from Scrum Alliance
  • Security+ training/certification CompTIA

$72,000- $100,000 This represents the typical compensation range for this position based on experience, location and other factors.
