Thales Group in Austin, TX is seeking a Software Engineer to design and implement cross-platform kernel features, primarily at the file system and storage level. You will work with Linux toolchains, FUSE-based file systems, and cloud-ready strategies while collaborating with US teams across PMs, QA, and support.
The role requires strong C/C++ and Go skills, experience in virtualization, and familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and Agile processes.

This is a hybrid position in Austin, TX.
As a member of a dynamic engineering team, you will have the opportunity to contribute to and influence the design of new features, keep updated of new features distributed in major new releases of Windows operating systems and work in the area of file systems, clustering, security and solution for cloud security. The Software Engineer will build and implement new features and maintain existing features in CTE product. This position with other Developers, QA engineers, support engineers and Product Managers throughout the software development life cycle.
Research, design and implement cross-platform kernel software, mostly at the file system and storage level layers. Design code with special attention to performance and correctness. Collaborate with the project managers in US to understand the customer requirements and use cases. Work with architects to expand the requirement and write the design/functional specifications. Work with support and compatibility teams to solve customer escalations. Attend North America customer calls to understand customer configuration, collect relevant technical logs, analyze them and provide the solution in timely manner. Provide the necessary timely updates to customer on escalation progress. Develop unit tests and ensure quality of the product; required to work with the system test team to define test plans, troubleshoot and resolve software defects. The candidate must be able to use the Linux tool chain both in user space and in the kernel in order to debug issues and develop code for FUSE based file system code. The candidate must be able to write functional specs using confluence and wiki tools, participate in review meetings, and be able to quickly prototype to evaluate feasibility. They will use debuggers to determine the root cause of issues in code they or other team members have written to improve the product quality. On occasion, the candidate will help triage customer reported defects, either working with the customer directly, or through the support organization. The candidate must be very transparent and communicative in their work, as the team comprises QA, Documentation, and support organizations. The candidate participates in daily huddles as the team uses SAFe Agile for planning and progress discussions and work individually or in a group setting with their peers on the assigned tasks and stories.

The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and the variable compensation target, is between Total Target Cash (TTC) 103,365.12 - 177,744.00 USD Annual This reflects how companies in a similar industry and geographic region generally pay for similar jobs. Where a position falls within this range is also dependent on other factors including – but not limited to – the employee’s career path history, competencies, skills and performance, as well as the company’s annual salary budget, the customer’s program requirements, and the company’s internal equity.
