Job summary

Cognitive Medical Systems is seeking a versatile Software Development Test Engineer to support testing web and mobile applications across the full SDLC, with strong manual and automated testing, API validation, accessibility (508) compliance, and security-focused QA.

The role is 100% remote, supporting customers nationwide from Florida and other designated states; collaboration with Agile teams is essential to deliver high-quality, accessible software products.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or related field or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of software QA experience, manual and automated testing.
• Proficiency in Groovy and Java, with scalable test scripts design.
• Experience applying AI Copilot in automation test creation.
• Experience testing web and mobile applications.
• REST API testing with Postman and SQL data validation.
• Accessibility testing tools and standards (Lighthouse, Axe, JAWS, NVDA).
• Strong Agile development knowledge and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain automated test suites and test cases for CI/CD.
• Manual and automated testing of REST APIs and UIs.
• Develop test-automation frameworks in Groovy/Java to boost efficiency.
• Use AI Copilot to assist in automation test creation.

• Perform end-to-end testing including functional, regression, and accessibility tests.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define acceptance criteria.
• Identify, document, and track defects using Jira.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and QA process improvements.
• Ensure testing practices align with security protocols.

Position Overview:

Cognitive is seeking a versatile and experienced Software Development Test Engineer to support the testing of web and mobile applications across the full development lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in both manual and automated testing, including accessibility (508) compliance, functional validation, API testing, and security-focused quality assurance. This role works closely with cross-functional Agile teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality, secure, and accessible software products.

This is a remote position; however, Cognitive hires only in the following designated U.S. states based on contract and business requirements: VA, DC, MD, TN, FL, AZ, CO, OR, and TX.

Key Responsibilities:

• Create and maintain automated test suites and test cases to support continuous integration and delivery.
• Conduct manual and automated testing of REST APIs and user interfaces.
• Develop and enhance test-automation frameworks in Katalon and supporting tools (e.g., Groovy, Java) to increase efficiency and reliability.
• Can use AI to help create and update automation testing using Copilot.
• Develop and execute comprehensive test plans and test cases for both web and mobile applications.
• Perform end-to-end testing, including functional, regression, integration, and accessibility (508) testing.
• Collaborate with developers, analysts, designers, and project managers to define acceptance criteria and ensure quality throughout the SDLC.
• Identify, document, and track defects using standard issue tracking tools (e.g., Jira).
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes.
• Ensure testing practices align with security protocols and organizational standards.
• Stay current on best practices and evolving trends in software QA, accessibility, and security.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• 5+ years of software QA experience, including manual and automated testing.
• Proficiency in automation scripting languages such as Groovy and Java, with the ability to design and maintain scalable, reusable test scripts.
• Understands and can adapt AI Copilot into automation test creation.
• Experience testing web and mobile applications.
• Familiarity with REST API testing and tools such as Postman.
• Proficiency in SQL and ability to validate data integrity.
• Experience with accessibility testing tools and standards (e.g., Lighthouse, Axe, JAWS, NVDA).
• Strong understanding of Agile development environments.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and within a team.
• US Citizenship required.
• Ability to obtain a Position of Public Trust - Medium Background Investigation (MBI)
• Willingness to provide after-hours on-call support as needed.
