Job description

Job Description Global Manufacturing Electrical & SDV is looking for innovators who thrive in tough challenges and are passionate about tackling meaningful work that will shape the future of the automotive industry. This isn’t a role for those looking for an easy path. It’s for those who embrace change, push through obstacles, and take ownership of complex problems. While there will be long days and moments that test your resilience, you’ll find purpose in your work, flexibility to prioritize your family, and the support of a people-first culture. If you’re ready to grow, thrive, and make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you. This Role Is Ideal For Software engineers and technical leaders who enjoy building products that solve complex operational challenges at scale. You'll thrive in this role if you enjoy balancing hands‑on software development with people leadership, partnering directly with end users, and delivering solutions that make a measurable impact on manufacturing operations.

WHY The purpose of this role is to lead a software development team responsible for digitizing manufacturing operations and advancing a global platform that enables plants and teams to operate from a common digital framework. As Supervisor of the GM OneOps team, you will connect manufacturing needs to technology strategy, guide the prioritization of team initiatives, and deliver solutions that improve issue resolution, escalation management, quality, throughput, and launch execution across GM's global manufacturing network.

WHAT As a Supervisor, you will lead a team of software developers who design, build, deploy, and support full-stack applications and integrations that power critical manufacturing operations. You will partner closely with manufacturing stakeholders to understand operational challenges, develop practical solutions, and deliver high-quality software products that create measurable business value. This is a highly hands‑on leadership role, with approximately 75% technical contribution and 25% people leadership responsibilities.

HOW By developing people, prioritizing high‑value work, removing barriers, and fostering collaboration across software, manufacturing, architecture, and program teams to deliver secure, scalable, and production‑ready digital solutions.

Work Arrangement - Onsite

The successful candidate is expected to report to the Warren Technical Center on a full‑time basis. This role requires up to 25% domestic and international travel.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead, coach, and develop a high‑performing software development team while fostering technical excellence and continuous learning.
  • Collaborate with plant teams, executives, staff engineers, and principal engineers to align manufacturing needs with technology solutions.
  • Partner with manufacturing stakeholders to translate complex operational challenges into prioritized software solutions that balance business value, technical risk, team capacity, and delivery commitments.
  • Guide the full software development lifecycle, including discovery, design, development, testing, deployment, rollout, and production support.
  • Create delivery plans, manage dependencies, remove blockers, and coordinate across software, manufacturing, architecture, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and program management teams.
  • Provide technical leadership, promote engineering best practices, support critical production incidents, and communicate progress, risks, tradeoffs, and decisions to leadership and partner organizations.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, adaptability, and continuous improvement.
  • Build strategic relationships across software, manufacturing, and program management organizations to support future digital transformation initiatives.
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Experience leading, supervising, coaching, or providing technical leadership to a software development team.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex business or manufacturing challenges and translate stakeholder needs into product roadmaps, requirements, and delivery plans.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and deliver multiple initiatives in a fast‑paced, ambiguous environment.
  • Experience designing, developing, deploying, and supporting enterprise software applications, with a strong understanding of software development lifecycle practices, Agile methodologies, and production operations.
  • Practical experience with Python, React, or comparable modern development technologies.
  • Experience working with SQL databases such as PostgreSQL.
  • Experience using GitHub and project management tools such as Azure DevOps (ADO) or Jira.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts and tradeoffs to non‑technical audiences.
  • Experience leveraging AI‑assisted development tools to improve software development productivity and accelerate solution delivery.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • 6+ years of software engineering experience, including experience leading technical teams or workstreams.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing operations, manufacturing execution systems, industrial automation, or connected operations environments.
  • Experience with cloud‑native technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure, AWS, GCP, or other major cloud platforms.
  • Experience designing distributed systems across on‑premises and cloud‑hosted environments.
  • Strong understanding of user experience and usability principles for enterprise applications.
  • Solid computer science fundamentals, including object‑oriented design, data structures, algorithms, and software architecture.
  • Experience leading application deployments, production transformations, or enterprise‑scale rollouts.
  • Experience building high‑performing engineering teams and improving software delivery, reliability, and operational performance.
