Amazon.com Services LLC in Seattle seeks a Software Development Manager to lead a Seattle-based team that builds systems turning launch requests into automated, coordinated plans. You will define technical direction, grow engineers, and partner with product managers to translate customer needs into working software.
You will also coach engineers, drive automation, and collaborate with stakeholders to meet delivery goals while maintaining quality and culture.
Do you want to help bring new technology to customers faster? We build the tools that let teams plan, launch, and expand AWS services for customers around the world. We are looking for a Software Development Manager to lead a Seattle-based team of software engineers at the center of how we deliver products to customers. Your team owns the systems that turn a launch request into a coordinated, largely automated plan, removing the manual steps and hand-offs that slow delivery down. In this role you will set your team's technical direction, grow the engineers who report to you, and work closely with product and program managers to turn customer needs into working software. You will care as much about how your team operates, its quality, culture, and pace, as about what it ships. If you like building systems that other builders depend on, and you want your work to shorten the time it takes to get new capabilities into customers' hands, this is a place to do it.
You start the day checking the health of the services your team runs and clearing anything blocking your engineers. You spend focused time in design reviews, helping the team make sound technical trade-offs, and in one-on-ones supporting the people who report to you. You meet with product and program partners to align on what matters next and give them a clear read on timelines and risks. Throughout the day you look for coordination and manual effort you can automate away, so your team spends its time on work only they can do.
Our team builds the system that helps teams deliver AWS services and capabilities to customers across the world, as quickly and reliably as possible. We do the shared, behind-the-scenes work so individual service teams can focus on their own engineering rather than the mechanics of launching and expanding. We care about clean interfaces, automation over manual effort, and measuring ourselves by how much time we save the teams we serve. We are a collaborative group that values curiosity, thoughtful design, and helping each other grow.
On a typical day, you’ll work alongside our service engineers and preemptively resolve potential issues, drive automation efforts, and consult with leading technical experts within AWS. You’ll help build and operate high-performing systems that will be critical in reducing operational burden for other AWS Dedicated Cloud teams, enhancing regional reliability through scalability, innovation, and automation. You will help us reimagine and continuously improve reliability engineering.
AWS Region Reliability Engineering & Automation offers the entrepreneurial feel of a start-up within one of the world’s most advanced cloud organizations.
