Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for talented SDM who have a passion for Big Data and distributed systems at trillions of transactions scale to help build the next generation of AWS internal services. Our applications are responsible for processing 270 million events per second and 20 terabytes of data per hour. As a foundational system we scale with the growth of cloud computing at Amazon. We are responsible for generating monthly charges, including enabling product pricing, subscriptions, discount programs, customer credit management, usage storage, bill computation, estimated bill, tax calculation, and storage of bills and line items for external customer consumption.
As an SDM, you will be responsible for leading a two‑pizza team. You will shape the technical direction of AWS services, foster a culture of innovation, and ensure delivery of high‑quality, scalable software solutions that meet the needs of our global customer base.
Our team operates in a fast‑paced environment where we “Work Hard, Have Fun, Make History.” On a typical day, software development engineers dive deep to root cause customer issues, release new features, and consult with senior engineers at Amazon to discuss radical new approaches to building and operating at scale.

Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineering managers. Foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous learning within your organization.
Collaborate with senior leadership to define and implement the technical vision and strategy for your area of responsibility. Ensure architectural decisions align with AWS’s long‑term goals and scalability requirements.
Oversee the execution of multiple complex engineering projects across teams. Ensure timely delivery of high‑quality software that meets customer needs and business objectives.
Work closely with product management, operations, and other engineering teams to align technical initiatives with business goals and customer requirements.
Drive initiatives to improve engineering processes, tools, and methodologies. Implement best practices in software development and operations (DevOps) across your organization.
Define and track key business metrics for your teams. Use data‑driven insights to optimize team performance and drive continuous improvement.
Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure the reliability, security, and scalability of AWS services.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
