Job summary

Amazon Leo's Software Development Engineer II will design and build software for Leo Customer Terminals, coordinating with hardware, firmware, networking, and cloud teams. You will enable fast, reliable internet at scale and drive diagnostics from field terminals, including end-to-end feature ownership from design to deployment.

The role targets embedded, multi-threaded, distributed systems with modern languages (C++, Java, Python) and a strong OO design foundation, in a fast-growing satellite

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture experience
• 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
• 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using C#, C++, Java, or Perl
• 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
• Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, Rust, C, Java, or Python
• 1+ years of experience developing large-scale, multi-threaded, embedded, or distributed software applications
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience

Responsibilities

• Improve the speed and reliability of the customer's internet connection on the terminal.
• Build software that gives customers and support teams the tools to detect and resolve issues on their own, reducing the need for on-site visits.
• Deliver device health and diagnostics data from the fleet reliably and efficiently, so engineering has visibility into how terminals are performing in the field.
• Own features end to end — design, implementation, testing, code review, deployment, and validation on live hardware — writing high-quality, maintainable code.
• Debug complex issues that span hardware, software, and the cloud, and raise the operational bar for software running on a rapidly growing production fleet.
• Collaborate with hardware, firmware, networking, and cloud teams to deliver features that meet quality and performance bars for launch.

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. The Leo Customer Terminal Application and Networking Team builds the on-device software that runs on the customer's antenna and turns it into a fast, reliable, self-diagnosing internet gateway. As a Software Development Engineer II on this team, you will design and build software that operates on customer terminals deployed in the field at large scale - where there is no physical access and connectivity can be intermittent. You will work closely with hardware, firmware, networking, and cloud teams to take features from design through testing and launch.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
• 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
• 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language
• Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, Rust, C, Java, or Python, including object-oriented design
• 1+ years of experience developing large-scale, multi-threaded, embedded, or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
