Job summary
Premera Blue Cross is hiring a Software Development Engineer IV to lead the design and development of scalable React Native mobile applications. You will partner with product, design, security, and engineering teams to deliver secure, resilient, user-centric experiences for members and providers.
This hybrid role is based on our Mountlake Terrace campus in Washington. You will mentor engineers, drive platform strategy, and shape long-term mobile capabilities while staying hands-on in development.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or related field.
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- 5+ years of experience developing React Native applications in production environments.
- Experience building and supporting applications on both iOS and Android platforms.
- Strong knowledge of JavaScript, TypeScript, React Native, and modern mobile application architecture patterns.
- Experience integrating mobile applications with RESTful APIs and backend services.
- Experience with mobile testing frameworks, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Proven ability to design and deliver highly scalable, maintainable, and performant solutions.
- Demonstrated experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of large-scale React Native mobile applications.
- Design solutions that support long-term scalability, maintainability, performance, and security.
- Build and enhance shared mobile frameworks, reusable components, design systems, and platform capabilities.
- Collaborate with Product, UX, Security, and Engineering partners to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Architect and implement integrations with REST APIs, GraphQL services, authentication platforms, and cloud-based services.
- Drive adoption of CI/CD, automated testing, release automation, and modern engineering practices.
- Improve application reliability through observability, monitoring, crash analytics, logging, and performance optimization.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues across Android and iOS platforms.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and make recommendations that improve developer productivity and user experience.
- Perform technical design reviews and provide guidance across multiple engineering teams.
- Mentor and coach engineers while fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
- Influence engineering standards, mobile architecture strategy, and platform roadmaps.

Are you passionate about building modern mobile experiences that simplify healthcare and improve people's lives? As a Software Development Engineer IV, you will play a key role in shaping the architecture, development, and evolution of Premera's mobile applications.
In this role, you'll lead the design and development of highly scalable React Native applications, drive mobile engineering best practices, and influence the technical direction of our mobile platform. You'll partner with product, design, architecture, security, and engineering teams to deliver secure, resilient, and user-centric mobile experiences for our members and providers.

- Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar technologies.
- Provides technical leadership for Premera's mobile application ecosystem.
- Drives architectural decisions that improve scalability, performance, reliability, and developer productivity.
- Delivers high-quality mobile experiences that improve member and provider engagement.
- Mentors engineers and elevates engineering practices across teams.
- Partners effectively with stakeholders to translate business strategy into technical execution.

The pay for this role will vary based on a range of factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's geographic location, market conditions, and specific skills and experience.
The salary range for this role is posted below; we generally target up to and around the midpoint of the range.
$135,600.00 - $230,500.00
- National Plus salary range is used in higher cost of labor markets including Western Washington and Alaska.
