Job summary

Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) offers a Software Development Engineer Intern position for Summer 2027. Interns will own end-to-end code from design through deployment, work on distributed systems, and impact customers worldwide.

This 12-week in-person program requires enrollment in a bachelor’s or higher, 40 hours/week, and availability across US locations. Candidates must be able to obtain TS/SCI clearance with polygraph; location options include Arlington, Seattle, Denver, and more.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in Bachelor's degree or higher in CS/CE/DS or related STEM field.
• Experience with at least one general-purpose programming language.
• Experience with data structures, algorithms, and OO design principles.
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools.
• Willing to work 40 hours/week for 12 weeks internship.
• Expected degree conferred between Oct 2027–Sep 2029.
• Have at least one quarter/semester/trimester remaining after internship concludes.

Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) is hiring Software Development Engineers to build mission-critical cloud services in secure, air-gapped environments supporting national security customers with distributed systems work with real-world impact.

The ADC SDE organization designs, develops, and operates cloud services within secure, air-gapped environments. Engineers in this space solve complex distributed systems challenges while delivering reliable, scalable infrastructure to government and defense customers. The work directly supports the mission of protecting national interests through innovative cloud technology.

The team builds and maintains tooling and automation that enables Region Reliability Operations to scale across US Amazon Dedicated Cloud (ADC) regions, supporting top ADC priorities, contractual commitments, and operational excellence.

The candidate selected must obtain and maintain a security clearance at the TS/SCI with polygraph level. Upon start, the selected candidate will be sponsored for a commensurate clearance for each government agency for which they perform AWS work.

Amazon internships across all seasons are full-time positions, and interns should expect to work in office, Monday-Friday, up to 40 hours per week typically between 8am-5pm. Specific team norms around working hours will be communicated by your manager. Interns should not have conflicts such as classes or other employment during the Amazon work-day. Basic Qualifications

• Are 18 years of age or older
• Are enrolled in a Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or related STEM fields
• Experience with at least one general-purpose programming language such as Java, Python, C++, C#, Go, Rust, or TypeScript
• Experience with data structure implementation, basic algorithm development, and/or object-oriented design principles
• Experience using AI-assisted development tools in academic or professional settings
• Work 40 hours/week minimum and commit to 12 week internship maximum
• Expected degree conferral date between October 2027 – September 2029
• Have a minimum of one quarter/semester/trimester remaining in their studies after their internship concludes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience from previous technical internship(s) or demonstrated project experience
• Experience with Cloud platforms (preferably AWS), database systems (SQL and NoSQL), AI tools for development productivity, contributing to open-source projects, and/or version control systems
• Knowledge of software development lifecycle, including design, development, test, build, deployment processes and timelines
• Strong problem decomposition, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
• Demonstrated ownership and initiative in seeing work through from design to operation
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly
