Amazon's network team is seeking a Software Development Engineer II to help build intelligent traffic controllers and tackle optimization at regional scale. You will design and implement software across the full lifecycle to improve speed, reliability, and efficiency of the global network.
You will mentor peers, review designs, and explore AI-driven approaches to enhance performance. This role requires collaboration with engineers, scientists, and operators to deliver production-grade systems
Amazon's network is one of the largest in the world, and we are looking for a Software Development Engineer II to help build the intelligent controllers that decide how traffic moves across it. In this role you will tackle optimization and distributed-systems problems at regional scale, designing and delivering software that makes our network faster, more reliable, and more efficient. You will work across the full software development lifecycle, from defining requirements through design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operations. If you enjoy translating hard technical problems into clean, well-tested code and want your work to have visible, global impact, we want to hear from you.
You might start by reviewing a design proposal from a teammate, offering feedback that sharpens the approach before code is written. Later you could be prototyping a new optimization algorithm alongside a scientist, then writing the distributed service that puts it into production. When an operational issue surfaces, you will dig into metrics with network engineers to find the root cause and ship a permanent fix. Throughout the day you will collaborate with a cross-disciplinary group of software engineers, scientists, and network engineers who all contribute to how traffic flows across Amazon's network.
Our team builds the intelligent traffic-engineering systems that shape how data moves across Amazon's global network. We are a cross-disciplinary group of software engineers, scientists, and network engineers, and we value an inclusive culture where every perspective strengthens our solutions. Right now we are investing in the next generation of intelligent traffic engineering, and this role will be central to that effort. If you want to solve optimization and large-scale distributed-systems problems that have real, measurable impact on network performance worldwide, this is the team to join.
