Job description

As part of the AWS Applied AI Solutions organization, we have a vision to provide business applications, leveraging Amazon’s unique experience and expertise, that are used by millions of companies worldwide to manage day-to-day operations. We will accomplish this by accelerating our customers’ businesses through delivery of intuitive and differentiated technology solutions that solve enduring business challenges. We blend vision with curiosity and Amazon’s real-world experience to build opinionated, turnkey solutions. Where customers prefer to buy over build, we become their trusted partner with solutions that are no-brainers to buy and easy to use.

Amazon Connect is an AI-powered customer experience solution that enables superior outcomes at a lower cost. Since its 2017 public launch, Amazon Connect has become an AI leader, transforming how organizations of all types interact with their customers.

We are seeking an experienced SDE III to serve as the technical leader for the MOSAIC Data Platform — a suite of six production services that power scalable, compliant data ingestion, storage, transformation, and discoverability for AWS AI services including Lex, Rekognition, Textract, Transcribe, Translate, Comprehend, Kendra, and others. The platform handles production-critical customer traffic across 15–19 AWS regions at AWS scale.

In this role, you will own the end-to-end technical vision and architecture for the Data Platform, driving cross-team and cross-org technical initiatives, setting engineering direction, and influencing org-level strategy for data compliance and flywheel automation. You will operate as the de facto technical authority within the Data Platform space, making high-judgment calls on system design, operational trade-offs, and technology investments.

This is a high-impact role that requires both deep technical expertise in distributed systems at scale and the ability to lead through ambiguity — translating complex organizational needs into multi-year roadmaps and driving alignment with senior leadership.

Key job responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end technical vision and architecture for the Data Platform, authoring multi-year roadmaps and driving alignment with org leadership on strategic technology investments.
  • Lead large-scale, ambiguous initiatives (e.g., new region launches, platform re-architectures, compliance framework overhauls) from problem definition through delivery, coordinating across multiple teams and organizations.
  • Establish engineering best practices and standards across the team — including API design patterns, service operational readiness requirements, and CI/CD pipeline maturity — that are adopted team-wide.
  • Proactively identify systemic risks, scaling bottlenecks, and operational gaps across the full service portfolio and drive solutions that prevent incidents and reduce operational toil org-wide.
  • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for cross-org stakeholders (AI service teams, compliance, security, infrastructure), representing Data Platform in org-level design reviews and planning.
  • Mentor and develop engineers, raising the technical bar through design review leadership, career development coaching, and establishing technical growth paths on the team.
  • Drive operational excellence as the senior escalation path for high-severity incidents, authoring COEs with org-level impact, and ensuring LORE compliance maturity across all services.
  • Influence the broader AAIS MOSAIC engineering culture through contributions to org-wide architecture forums, bar-raising initiatives, and thought leadership on distributed systems at scale.
A day in the life

The MOSAIC Data & Knowledge team is part of AWS AI Services (AAIS) and is responsible for the foundational data infrastructure that powers AI services used by millions of AWS customers. Our platform enables scalable, compliant data ingestion, storage, transformation, and discoverability — ensuring that AI service teams can build and continuously improve their models through data flywheel automation.

We operate at the intersection of large-scale distributed systems, data engineering, and regulatory compliance. Our services handle sensitive customer data across 15–19 AWS regions and must meet the highest bars for security, availability, and data governance. This is a team where your architectural decisions have a direct impact on the reliability and compliance posture of AWS AI services.

We value ownership, technical depth, and a bias for action. We are looking for builders who thrive in ambiguity, take pride in operational excellence, and are passionate about raising the bar for the engineers around them.
