Job summary

Amazon seeks a Software Development Engineer II for the Digital Acceleration team in Bellevue, WA. You will design AI-native features, write production-ready Java code on AWS, and collaborate with PMs and engineers to ship scalable solutions.

You will work on a shared commerce foundation enabling ordering and fulfillment across Prime and other services, influencing system reliability and growing through operating at scale in a fast-paced, customer-obsessed environment.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
• 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
• 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, and deploy AI-native feature standardizations in Java on AWS that digital clients across Amazon can adopt with zero custom integration.
• Write logical, well-organized, and maintainable code using optimal data structures and algorithms, making thoughtful trade-offs between performance and readability.
• Collaborate with Technical Program Managers, Product Managers, and peer engineers on scoping, code reviews, and operational support to ship high-quality software.
• Troubleshoot production issues, identify root causes, and contribute to improving system reliability across the ordering platform.
• Integrate AI models and AI knowledge bases into commerce workflows, staying current with new technologies to improve productivity and code quality.

As a Software Development Engineer (SDE) on this team, you will design and launch AI-native features that digital product lines can adopt out of the box, without custom integration work. A day in the life

Your day starts with a team standup where you align on priorities with your Manager, Technical Program Manager, and fellow engineers. From there you dive into coding, building features, writing tests, and refining your implementations based on code review feedback. You might pair with a teammate to debug a tricky ordering flow or prototype a new AI-driven capability that dozens of digital product lines will use. You also participate in operational reviews, learning how your services perform at scale and spotting opportunities to make them better.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
