AWS Building Connectivity Engineering owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of the internal networks that Amazonians rely on to access their tools and achieve connectivity for internal uses within Data Center environments.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a Network Development Engineer to join our team in Sydney. In this role, you will be responsible for the design, deployment, and operation of network infrastructure that powers AWS services globally. You will work alongside talented engineers to solve complex networking challenges at scale, automate operational processes, and drive improvements that enhance the reliability and performance of our network. Key job responsibilities
  • Develop software systems and successfully deliver them to customers, particularly related to automating away the operational overhead, datacenter deployment, and metrics needed to deploy and support large-scale networks.
  • Leverage strong knowledge in data path optimization, data structures, algorithms, problem solving, and complexity analysis to implement software features and functionality
  • Use best practices to execute across the full development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, test automation, and operations
  • Communicate with other technical teams and management to collect requirements, describe software functionality, and build technical designs
A day in the life
  • Join our daily team standup to sync up on current tasks
  • Spend uninterrupted time writing code
  • Meet with customers and other stakeholders to discuss their needs from our platforms, and help integrate their input into our plan
  • Collect metrics and telemetry data to characterize the performance of our platform
  • Write up a design proposal of a new feature for collaborative review
About the team

The Building Connectivity Engineering (BCE) organization operates these internal networks, and the Building Connectivity Software Systems (BCSS) team has the role of transforming the way the organization operates - eliminating toil and automating away process snags that improve the velocity and accuracy of the way the network performs on behalf of our partners and customers.

Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
  • 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
  • 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
