Description

AWS customers trust us with their most sensitive data. We’re building cryptographic systems that enhance customer control over access to their data and metadata. You’ll design and implement components using Rust, PKI, formal verification, and distributed systems that strengthen customer data protection while maintaining operational efficiency at scale. You’ll own significant features from design through deployment, building systems that give customers verifiable control over who accessed their resources and when. Working as part of the Piezo team, you’ll contribute to security outcomes across AWS service teams. Your work will have CISO-level visibility and influence how tens of thousands of Amazon builders design and operate their services.

You’re a software engineer with experience in distributed systems, security, and large-scale design. You deliver high-quality work independently, make sound technical decisions, and mentor junior engineers. You write maintainable code, conduct thorough code reviews, and debug complex issues across multiple components. You communicate technical concepts clearly and demonstrate ownership beyond assigned tasks.

A day in the life

You will start your day reviewing operational metrics and addressing any issues that surfaced overnight. From there, you might dive into designing a new feature, pair-programming with a teammate, or leading a code review session. You will regularly connect with product managers and stakeholders to align on priorities, and you will document your software so that others can easily understand and extend it. Expect to balance new development with refactoring and operational improvements.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
• 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
