Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Software Development Engineer to build scalable, customer‑facing services in a fast‑paced cloud environment. You will contribute to the full stack of an SOA based system, touching BI, web services, databases, and UI usability.

You will collaborate with internal customers to understand requirements, design robust solutions in Java, C++, and Perl, and apply best practices in testing and operations.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• 1+ years of design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) experience.
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Develop software services designed to adapt to evolving business needs and improve customer experience and operations productivity.
• Build a platform spanning the full vertical stack of an SOA based system, connected to most systems in the Amazon ecosystem (BI, web services, databases, UI usability).
• Developers will use Java, C++, Linux, Perl, and in-house Amazon technologies to deliver solutions.
• Establish relationships with internal customers to understand requirements and demonstrate value of products.

Amazon Web Services is a dynamic and rapidly growing cloud computing business within Amazon. We provide developers and their organizations with building block web services that allow them to innovate faster and to operate their software more cost-effectively. These services-in-the-cloud include on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, querying of structured data, message queuing, and more.

EPS development team is working on 3 different, green field projects including customer facing applications. The space lends itself to be and intellectually stimulating as we are tackling new boundaries in the cloud computing space. Some of the challenges facing the team are in big data, social apps, machine learning and data mining. We are filing for multiple patents in this area and has room for lot more to be filed. You will be surrounded by people that are wickedly smart and passionate about cloud computing. The team is a part of a self-standing P&L group with the ability to drive both Free Cash Flow and world class customer experience.

We have a need for a software development engineer who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

• Develop software services that are designed to adapt to the evolving businesses of Amazon while improving customer experience, as well as the quality and productivity of our operations teams.
• Develop a platform that will provide the opportunity to contribute to the complete vertical stack of an SOA based system, which is horizontally connected to most systems in the larger Amazon ecosystem. Areas include business intelligence, web service implementation, database design, web based applications, UI design and usability and accessibility optimization.
• Build relationships with existing and potential internal customers to understand their individual requirements and demonstrate how products can add value to their business.
• Developers in this position will use a variety of mainstream and open source technologies like Java, C++, Linux, Perl, Javascript, Oracle, as well as in-house Amazon technologies.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
• 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
