Software Development Engineer Co‑Op

In this Software Development Engineer Co‑Op role within the Radiology Device Software Development team, you join Bayer Radiology’s long‑standing mission to reshape diagnostic imaging workflows through connected medical devices and AI‑powered digital platforms; you contribute to software for industry‑leading injector technologies and digital tools that support radiologists worldwide, helping deliver clearer answers and better patient outcomes while gaining hands‑on experience in regulated medical device development.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Achieve a strong understanding of the product and its clinical applications;
  • Understand the system and software architecture to ensure alignment of design and implementation;
  • Design and develop software conforming to standards, performing static analysis and unit testing;
  • Integrate software code with the overall system and seek code reviews from Software Leads;
  • Work with the Verification & Validation (V&V) team to resolve reported issues in the software;
  • Collaborate within cross‑functional teams across multiple geographies to convey problems, opportunities, solutions, and results in medical device R&D activities;
  • Be involved in all aspects of the product development lifecycle from requirements to delivery, working closely with Bayer product managers and cross‑functional teams to deliver world‑class solutions;
  • Design and develop high‑quality code exhibiting excellent performance that meets product requirements with a strong focus on readability, efficiency, scalability, reliability, maintainability, and security;
  • Work in both desk and laboratory settings, applying a hands‑on mindset to solving problems;
  • Gain exposure to a wide range of software‑related technologies while contributing to both new products and sustenance products in the Software Engineering Department.
WHO YOU ARE
  • Currently a college or graduate student seeking a software engineering co‑op opportunity;
  • Motivated to design and develop software code for medical device development that meets or exceeds customer expectations and complies with FDA design controls;
  • Interested in gaining valuable experience in medical device development and exposure to a wide range of technologies and business problems;
  • Able to collaborate effectively with product managers and cross‑functional teams in a regulated environment;
  • Prepared to work in both office and laboratory environments with a hands‑on, problem‑solving mindset;
  • Committed to writing high‑quality, secure, and maintainable code and actively engaging in continuous improvement within the software development lifecycle.

Employees can expect to be paid a salary of approximately between $24.00 to $45.50. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits may include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc (if relevant). This salary (or salary range) is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
