Amazon Data Services, Inc. is hiring a Software Development Engineer to join the Backbone Engineering team in the AWS Networking organization.

You will design and build software to improve AWS Backbone network performance and reliability, enabling scalable and highly available connectivity across locations. Work with DynamoDB, S3, EC2, API Gateway and other AWS services in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship software development experience.
  • 2+ years of design/architecture (patterns, reliability, scaling) experience.
  • 1+ years of SDE or related work experience.
  • 1+ years designing and developing large-scale distributed software applications.
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in CS, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.

The AWS Networking organization is hiring, and we’re looking for talented Software Development Engineers (SDE) to join our team. Within Networking, we’re confronting and solving complex and high-stake challenges. Our teams support the design of connectivity between the hundreds of AWS location and thousands of services. As a member of the Backbone Engineering team, you will play a part in designing and architecting software feeding Network Engineers with critical information about AWS Backbone network performance.

This position is part of the Backbone organization where the team is responsible for building solutions that increase the scale, efficiency and resiliency of the AWS Backbone.

Ever wonder how Amazon manages the capacity of thousands of network links? How Amazon offers a highly available and scalable network? Engineers on this team collaborate with various teams to automate capacity allocation of AWS services workloads into the network. Engineers on this team make day-to-day and strategic decisions that carry a huge amount of responsibility and impact.

Key job responsibilities

Engineers build software and deploy products that enable the backbone to be utilized as an efficient service by our customers. Our customers utilize our services to visualize the performance of AWS Backbone network that crosses the entire plant, identify where in the real-world availability risk and congestion occur to plan and act to protect the network.

Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
  • 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
  • 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Compensation & Benefits

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
