Job summary

Amazon.com Services LLC is hiring a Software Development Engineer for the AWS Agentic AI Foundations team in Bellevue, WA. You will design and build scalable, fault-tolerant Bedrock AgentCore services and mentor engineers, influencing strategic technical decisions and architecture.

You will work across Lambda Sandbox and other compute platforms, focusing on performance, reliability, and rapid iteration in a startup-like environment within a large company. Strong ML systems experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship software development experience.
• 2+ years of design or architecture (patterns, reliability, scaling) of new/existing systems.
• 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience.
• 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using languages such as C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
• 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience.
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement core runtime infrastructure components including control plane APIs, data plane execution environments, and deployment orchestration systems.
• Build managed runtime capabilities that reduce Docker complexity and enable rapid iteration for developers (ZIP-based deployments, dependency management, cold start optimization).
• Optimize agent invocation latency, cold start performance, and resource utilization across Lambda Sandbox, Snapstart, and custom compute platforms.
• Develop monitoring, observability, and operational tooling to ensure production reliability and enable rapid incident response.
• Collaborate with AWS Lambda, Bedrock, and open-source framework teams to integrate and optimize agent runtime capabilities.
• Mentor junior engineers and drive engineering excellence through code reviews, design reviews, and operational best practices.

In this role, you will build new or enhance existing Bedrock AgentCore services that are going to be trend setting in the Agentic AI field. This is an area that requires solving the hardest engineering challenges to enable machine learning powered solutions for our customers. As a tier one Amazon service our solutions have to be scalable, efficient, and fault tolerant. Experience with machine learning systems is preferred, but not required. You will deliver some of our most strategic technical projects, deliver large scalable systems, design new software systems at the cutting edge of distributed database technology and have a significant bottom-line impact on our business and competitive position. In addition to delivering critical software, you will draw from a deep and broad technical expertise to mentor engineers and provide leadership on complex technical issues. This position within the AWS AI team presents a unique and rare opportunity to get on the ground floor within a fast growing business and help shape the technology, product and the business. Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
• 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
• 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
