Job description

Annapurna Labs, an Amazon company, is at the forefront of cloud infrastructure innovation. Our team designs custom silicon that powers the world’s largest cloud — from Graviton processors and Nitro security chips to Trainium and Inferentia machine learning accelerators.

We are a multidisciplinary engineering organization where hardware meets software at a massive scale. Our chips and systems run millions of workloads across AWS, and our low-level software is the critical layer that brings this silicon to life. Joining Annapurna Labs means working on technology that shapes the future of cloud computing.

Key job responsibilities

We are looking for talented Software Development Engineers to join our teams in Tel Aviv or Haifa and work on low-level software development. You will be building the foundational software layers that sit closest to the hardware — enabling high performance, reliability, and efficiency for AWS services at an unprecedented scale.

This is an opportunity to work in a deeply technical environment where your code runs on custom-designed silicon, directly impacting the performance and cost of cloud infrastructure used by millions of customers worldwide.

  • Design, develop, and optimize low-level software including device drivers, firmware, and hardware abstraction layers

  • Collaborate closely with hardware design teams to define hardware-software interfaces and bring-up new silicon

  • Write performance-critical systems software in C/C++ that operates under strict latency and resource constraints

  • Debug complex hardware-software interactions

  • Contribute to system architecture decisions and define software design patterns for next-gen chip features

  • Develop and maintain automated test frameworks to validate functionality and performance at scale

  • Participate in code reviews and drive engineering best practices within the team

A day in the life

Your Path to Embedded

This role is also an excellent opportunity for experienced software engineers looking to transition into embedded and low-level development. If you come from a general software engineering background — backend services, distributed systems, cloud applications — and are curious about what happens beneath the abstractions, this is your chance to make the move.

We invest in engineers who are eager to learn. You will receive:

  • Structured onboarding with a dedicated mentor from the hardware-software boundary team

  • Hands‑on ramp-up: start with well‑defined driver modules and gradually expand to architecture‑level contributions

  • Pairing with experienced embedded engineers

What matters most is strong C/C++ skills, a debugging mindset, and genuine curiosity about how systems work at the lowest level. You don’t need to know everything on day one — we’ll help you get there.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers

  • Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

  • Experience in embedded development in C/C++
