Job summary

Amazon Leo Trust Services is seeking a Software Development Engineer to help secure Leo devices and cloud-native services. You will collaborate with leaders to define security priorities, guide teams toward secure-by-default solutions, and advance bleeding-edge security technology.

The role requires 3+ years delivering security software, 3+ years building distributed systems, and experience with PKI/HSMs and encryption.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years delivering security software in production.
  • 3+ years developing distributed systems in Java, Rust, Go, or C/C++.
  • 3+ years working with cloud-native environments.
  • Experience with PKI, HSMs, Encryption, Cryptography, Key Management, SecureBoot, or Secure Device Provisioning.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with business leaders to define security priorities.
  • Support product leaders by acting as a trusted advisor.
  • Provide direction that makes security easy.
  • Help leaders measure their organization’s security execution.
  • Guide teams towards outcomes that produce products that safely handle customer data.
  • Collaborate with engineers to assess technical debt and risk.
  • Provide strategic direction that addresses vulnerabilities and fortifies our products.
  • Lead the burn down of long‑term risk.
  • Guide engineers towards solutions that are secure by default.
  • Invent and propose secure‑by‑default solutions when they do not exist.
  • Advocate for the creation and deployment of new testing tools and detection mechanisms.
  • Propose a security vision for the business that protects our customers.
  • Develop bleeding‑edge security technology.
A Day in the Life

In this highly dynamic role, you’ll be accountable for deciding where your time investments provide the most value. You will have a blend of proactive and reactive work. Teams will reach out for ideas on how to handle a wide variety of security problems.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years delivering security software in a production environment.
  • 3+ years experience developing distributed software systems in Java, Rust, GoLang or C/C++.
  • 3+ years experience working with cloud‑native environments.
  • Experience with at least one of PKI, HSMs, Encryption, Cryptography, Key Management, SecureBoot, or Secure Device Provisioning.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in performing and/or participating in technical security assessments, e.g. code level and design level assessments.
  • Master’s degree with a specialization in information security.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to use data and metrics to back up assumptions and recommendations that produce results.
  • Experience developing security tools & processes that work at scale.
  • Experience triaging security risks/vulnerabilities and ensuring that they are properly understood by the business and fixed or mitigated.
  • Hands‑on experience with satellite communications and management software.
  • Experience with low‑level programming and embedded systems.

The base salary range for this position is 143,700.00 – 194,400.00 USD annually in USA, VA, Arlington.
