Job summary

Amazon Leo for Government seeks a Software Development Engineer to design, build, and maintain APIs linking Leo capabilities to U.S. government customers such as NASA and DoD. You will contribute to mission-critical safety and sustainability services that coordinate with external systems at scale.

You will work on cross-disciplinary teams to meet performance, security, and interoperability needs while delivering interfaces and data visualizations for stakeholders across the Leo program.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of design or architecture experience.
• 1+ years of software development engineer or related experience.
• 1+ years designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, distributed software applications and services.
• 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience.
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
• Experience programming with at least one software language.

Responsibilities

• Interface with Leo network team to develop APIs and enabling interface software for government customers.
• Demonstrate interfaces and architectures in a simulated test environment.
• Solve complex problems related to Leo constellation for government customers as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Collaborate with internal and vendor teams to deliver software and interface requirements.
• Ensure systems meet performance, availability, reliability, interoperability and security needs.
• Communicate project health, risks and issues to stakeholders.

Software Development Engineer, Amazon Leo for Government

Amazon Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

This role is responsible for designing, building out, and maintaining critical APIs and interfaces to link Leo capabilities to US Government customers such as NASA, DoD, and other National Security customers. You will develop forward-looking software services for mission critical space safety and sustainability applications which will automatically coordinate with external systems and organizations rapidly, reliably, and at scale.

Key job responsibilities

• Utilize network topology understanding and Software Defined Networking / network operations experience to interface with the Leo network team to develop APIs and other enabling interface software to meet unique customer needs
• Demonstrate the capabilities of the interfaces and architectures you define in a simulated test environment you help develop
• Solve complex technical problems related to the use of the Leo constellation for government customers as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Contribute to internal and vendor teams to develop and deliver on software and interface requirements
• Ensure systems meet Leo and US Government performance needs including availability, reliability, upgradeability, interoperability, and security requirements
• Effectively communicate project health, risks and issues to stakeholders and management teams
• Escalate urgent issues appropriately and drive them to closure in a timely manner
• Provide visualizations, document results, and communicate them across multi-disciplinary project teams.

Security Clearance : This position requires that the candidate selected be a US Citizen and candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance of TS/SCI.

About the team

The Leo for Government team is a multi-disciplinary technology team involved in developing and delivering targeted and scalable solutions for custom satellite and ground applications, including United States and allied government customers.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
• 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
• 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
• 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
• 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
• 3+ year of Software Defined Networking / network operations experience

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
