Job summary

Amazon.com Services LLC is hiring a software engineer to join Amazon Legal Technologies, building AI-enabled legal tools and secure platforms at global scale. You will own features end-to-end, partnering with legal and product teams to translate workflows into robust software and scalable services using AWS and AI frameworks.

The role emphasizes an AI-first approach, on-call responsibility, and mentorship to raise engineering standards across a diverse product portfolio.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems.
  • 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience.
  • 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, distributed software applications using C#, C++, Java or Perl.
  • 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Responsibilities

  • Build features across our product portfolio, including case management system, external user-facing systems, and compliance systems.
  • Own feature delivery across the full lifecycle, working backwards from customers through design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operations, and partnering with engineers, product and legal teams to shape requirements.
  • Design and build generative AI capabilities, MCP tooling, and agentic automation that power legal workflows and enable legal customers to build their own automations.
  • Develop AI-driven service integrations and automation across strategic initiatives, delivering the backend and agentic engineering behind our Legal Tech AI roadmap.
  • Contribute to modernizing existing architecture by implementing scalable services using AWS technologies.
  • Create integrations between legal tools, document management systems, and internal platforms to automate workflows and reduce manual work.
  • Write secure, maintainable, well-tested code with clear documentation and design choices others can extend, handling critical legal data under strict security and compliance requirements.
  • Embrace an AI-first approach to daily engineering: use AI-powered development tools by default to accelerate delivery, raise code quality, and automate routine work.
  • Drive operational excellence: own on-call support and ensure the root cause of issues is permanently fixed, not worked around.
  • Drive technical discussions and code reviews, mentor junior engineers across the team, and raise the team's engineering bar.

Amazon Legal Technologies is an innovative team that supports Amazon's legal operations worldwide. We build highly secure and robust solutions that help legal teams efficiently manage everything from litigation cases to external use cases to employee-facing compliance workflows. Our products serve thousands of users globally and handle some of the most sensitive data at Amazon. We're at an exciting transformation point, embedding generative AI to revolutionize how legal teams work and to automate complex workflows. We're looking for a smart, creative Software Engineer who is passionate about applying AI and modern technologies to real customer needs, and who brings an AI-first mindset to how they build. This is an excellent opportunity for a developer seeking high ownership and growth in a rapidly evolving team, where your work directly shapes how Amazon's legal operations function at global scale.

You'll work on a diverse product portfolio that includes case management platforms, secure external-facing portals, and employee facing compliance tools and more. You'll own meaningful features across the full lifecycle: design, implementation, testing, deployment, and operations, using AWS services, generative AI frameworks, and MCP-based agentic tooling. You'll collaborate directly with legal professionals to translate their workflows into technical solutions and see your code make an immediate difference in their daily work. Successful candidates multi-task, adapt quickly to new environments, build reliable and maintainable code, and find creative solutions to complex problems.
