Job summary

Goodville Mutual Casualty Company is seeking a software developer to collaborate with the IT development team, product owners, and staff. You will implement digital applications or core company systems, develop, implement, and maintain software components and user interfaces, and use services to communicate with other platforms.

You will participate in agile teams to deliver consistent work, and contribute to continuous improvements of existing code bases while supporting systems as needed.

Qualifications

  • College degree or comparable experience in web development languages, computer science, or related field.
  • Effective interpersonal and user/peer team communication skills are required.
  • Requires little to no supervision with most tasks.
  • Solid foundation of technologies and solution delivery.

Summary

Work with the IT development team, product owners, other staff to implement digital applications or core company systems; developing, implementing, and maintaining software components and user interfaces; use services and data to communicate with other platforms; and participate in agile teams to deliver consistent work.

Functions
  • Develop, test, install, and maintain insurance systems including:
  • Integrating insurance systems.
  • Digital enablement of existing systems.
  • Web services – internal and external.
  • Data mapping and transformation between different systems.
  • Expert systems and business rules.
  • Share technical knowledge and skills with IT team.
  • Assist in the analysis and design of business system automation projects.
  • Carry out assigned responsibilities in the maintenance, security, and support of IT projects.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry and technology practices and developments through continuing education and networking.
  • Provide continuous improvement of existing code base and applications.
  • Monitoring and support of systems on and off-hours, including nightly batch and portals as assigned.
  • Support the IT team with other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • College degree or comparable experience in web development languages, computer science, computer technology, or other internet-related computer technology required.
  • Effective interpersonal and user/peer team relationship and communication skills required.
  • Requires little to no supervision or guidance with most tasks.
  • Solid foundation of technologies and solution delivery required.
  • Fundamental understanding of architecture design and patterns required.
  • Ability to work through problems and recommend techniques to solve them required.
  • Proficiency in one or more coding languages required.
  • Highly competent in a specific area of software development required.
  • Familiarity with code automated unit testing required.
  • Experience in or ability to learn Property and Casualty insurance principles, agency-company interface, and insurance web site development required.
  • Ability to work independently on mid to complex tasks required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, travel to all organization offices (including in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and South Dakota) and travel to vendor work sites required.
  • Ability to work in an office environment with moderate noise level, remain in a stationary position and operate a computer a majority of the time required.
  • Ability to move throughout the office to access work materials and to move work materials weighing up to ten pounds daily required.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation required.
