Job summary

AMEWAS, headquartered in California, Maryland, seeks a Software Developer (DevOps)-Journeyman to support the Joint Simulation Environment product suite. You will work on Windows and Linux, developing automated build/test services and integrating software into flight simulators for pilot training.

The role requires a DoD Secret clearance with onboarding to DoD Top Secret, a bachelor’s degree in CS/CE, and experience in Git, GitLab CI/Jenkins, and scripting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or related field with 3 years of software build and scripting experience
  • Security clearance: DoD Secret; onboarding: DoD Top Secret clearance
  • 3 years of Software/IT/Systems Engineer experience building and maintaining automated development environments
  • Proficiency with configuration management systems (Git)
  • Proficiency with integration tools (GitLab CI or Jenkins)
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (Bash, Batch, and/or Python)

The Position:

AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Software Developer (DevOps)-Journeyman to support Battlespace Modeling & Simulation. The salary range of this position is $115,800.00 - $166,700.00 and is commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for remote work; on-site support is required.

Position Background:

The Simulation Support Branch (SSB) supports the development, integration, and testing of the Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) Technical Baseline (JTB) product suite. The software products comprising the JTB support modeling and simulation (M&S) environments; trainer systems; test and evaluation (T&E); analysis; live, virtual and constructive (LVC); research and development (R&D) activities for DoD agencies and their international partners. All products are government owned, developed and managed.

A typical day as a Software Developer (DevOps)-Journeyman may include:
  • Supports the DevOps Team Lead by developing software for an advanced synthetic training environment
  • Integrates software into flight simulators to support pilot training against potential threats
  • Supports software development, integration, and distribution
  • Directs team personnel in day-to-day tasking and contributes to expectation management for team deliverables
  • Ensures customer/stakeholder satisfaction and coordinates with DevOps Team Lead to manage leadership expectations and report all potential risks
  • Communicates project status and team needs to the DevOps Team Lead and ensures schedules and requirements are met
  • Contributes to documentation, briefs, reports, and helps answer data calls
  • Implements new and/or upgrades existing automated build services that support the development process on both Windows and Linux systems
  • Scales up capacity for and utilization of automated building and testing
  • Facilitates/Grows the amount of automated testing used by our team
  • Monitors, maintains, and reports on the status of automated build and test services
  • Develops and integrates tools as needed to improve developer efficiency
  • Promotes best practices and technologies to the team and to team leadership
  • Collaborates with the IT team to maintain a strong security posture on the systems
Must-haves:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering: Degrees in Engineering, Math, and Physics with 3 years of software build and scripting experience may qualify
  • Degree obtained from an accredited college or university as recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
  • 3 years of experience as a Software, IT, or Systems Engineer with experience building and maintaining automated software development environments
  • Proficiency with configuration management systems (Git)
  • Proficiency with integration tools (GitLab CI or Jenkins)
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (Bash, Batch, and/or Python)
  • Minimum clearance required to apply (candidates who do not currently hold the required clearance will not be considered): DoD Secret Clearance
  • Current clearance required upon onboarding: DoD Top Secret Clearance
  • Additional Accesses: The ability to obtain and maintain the DoD security clearance eligibility and/or additional security access requirements necessary to perform the duties of the position, as required by the contract. U.S. Citizenship is required for all clearances.

  • Understanding of distributed computing and related architectures
  • Experience with container technology (Docker and Podman)
  • Experience with infrastructure management tools (Ansible and Puppet)
